Question 1. Describe Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. How does it relate to information technology projects?

People's behaviors are governed or driven by a succession of needs, according to Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

(1)Physiological requirements are at the bottom of the hierarchy.

(2)Safety needs to be met once physiological demands are met. This deals with the safety of the individual, such as being secure in their bodywork, health, etc.

(3)After safety needs are met, social needs take precedence, and so on up the hierarchy.

(4) Thereafter, self-esteem needs to be met which deals with respect, confidence, etc.

(5) At the peak of the pyramid is self-actualization which deals with creativity fulfillment etc.

The importance of the sequence of these demands in the pyramid, as well as their relative quantities, cannot be overstated. Each level of the hierarchy, according to Maslow, is a requirement for the levels above it.

For example, a person cannot contemplate self-actualization if fundamental security and safety demands have not been met.

The physiological, safety, social, and esteem needs at the bottom of Maslow's hierarchy are referred to as deficiency needs, whereas the highest level, self-actualization, is referred to as a growth need. Individuals can only act on growth requirements once they have met their deficiency needs. Problem-solving, life enjoyment, personal progress, and the ability to have peak experiences are all characteristics of self-actualized individuals.

Working on an information technology project, most people will probably have their basic physiological and safety needs met. However, if someone has an unexpected medical emergency or is laid off from job, physiological and safety concerns will take priority.

To encourage project team members, the project manager must first understand each individual's motivation, particularly in terms of social, esteem, and self-actualization or growth requirements. Some companies provide meetings and social activities for new employees to meet their social needs. Other project members may see these activities as an invasion of their personal time, which they would prefer spend with friends and family or working on a graduate degree.

A staffing management plan or procedure is a document that outlines the numerous human resource criteria that will be satisfied for both management and personnel. The plan is a subset of the project management plan that enables projects to succeed by successfully managing diverse teams to fulfil tasks effectively and efficiently. A staffing management plan can be produced in one of two ways - informal and broad or formal and detailed. Each staffing management strategy is customised to the unique requirements of each individual project. The information contained in stated personnel management plan is decided by the nature of the application and the scope of the project. Thus, developing a customised workforce management strategy for your organisation is critical to its overall performance in everyday operations.
