Growth Mindset is an integral part of the way we learn. If a person has this way of thinking, they are open to the struggle that allows them to fail and succeed. The opposite is a fixed mindset that views ability and the brain as unable to change. The growth mindset believes that the brain can grow and change. It is a positive frame of mind. Students can achieve great things if they hold on to this way of thinking. They see it as facing things they have not mastered, Yet.

The Relationships that evolve within and around the classroom setting are crucial to making students feel included, comfortable, and valued. If there are trusting relationships, studens are more willing to open themselves up to others. These relationships enhance their chances to access information and grow. Even teachers do a better job of teaching when they establish strong, honest, trustfilled relationships with colleagues and students.

1) One quote I find memorable is about the gut being called the second brain.

“Your gut bacteria stimulate the neurons of your enteric nervous system to communicate directly to your brain. This constant communication, driven by your diet, influences memory, mood, and cognition.” (Jensen & McConchie, 2020)

2) The second quote that I connected to is “The brain benefits if, in preparation for new learning, it gets opportunities to bring to the surface everything it currently “knows” about the content area or skill” (Jensen & McConchie, 2020).

The first quote is memorable because it helps to reinforce the importance of what we put into our bodies on how well we learn, our feelings, and thought processes. Everything our brains engage in, retain, and apply is linked to the connections our brains build using the foods we consume as fuel. This fits well with the focus on personal well-being for improving learning ability.

The second quote resonates with me because it reminds me of why reconnecting with past experiences, understandings, visuals and audio strengthens our ability to comprehend and retain information. This reminds me of why we should let students share or reflect on things they believe they already know on topics as they embark upon new learnings. The links they form can create strong connections for the new information they are working to acquire.
