2) No, he couldn’t, but by some miracle he survived. It doesn’t even cross my mind that it lasted for 24 days with plain water and sauce. For balance in the body, in addition to water, you need food, at least bread.

    1)I think he didn't want to go down the cable car because of the food. After eating, he wanted to walk down because walking helps him digest his food.

    1) I think he and his friends wanted to take the cable car to the top of the mountain and after eating at the restaurant, enjoy the fresh air and scenery and walk down.
    (if he is afraid of heights how did he get to the top of the mountain by cable car?)
    2) I don't know how he survived drinking water mixed with barbecue sauce for 24 days. I don't think a person can eat barbecue sauce, and I think he was forced to eat it that way
    If I have another advice, it is better to take meat and vegetables that give people strength in mountainous areas.
