The KKK was just a social fraternity but then their purpose changed into not letting ex-slaves be able to vote or have anything to do with politics.. The KKK declined in the 1870's because of the pass of the federal legislation to prosecute the crimes of Klansmen .Although the KKK had a decline in 1870 the membership recruitment skyrocketed after WWI with recruiting 100,000 people in just 10 months.
