I would describe education in the 19th century as very unjust. I think this because there were not a lot of colleges for black people. I also describe education as this because there were not a lot of educated teachers willing to teach freed slaves.

in the painting "a hunger to learn" it shows an elderly black man reading a newspaper in candle light, it also appears he might be struggling which also shows the state of education in the late 19th century, the painting demonstrates this by showing not many African Americans got the opportunity to learn like the more fortunate white people which not only shows the struggle that African american people had during the time but also the racism in the education system.

The education in the 19th century was very unfair to many people and very limited. Education was available to African Americans even though it was very limited.

The painting shows a elderly man using a candle to read. He looks like hes struggling to read and has a hard time but still wants to read. This shows that people of all ages wanted to learn after getting the chance to in the 19th century.

The painting made me feel sad for the man because he doesn't have good resources like a light bulb and can't read well. Over all it has much meaning.
