Henry Clay, one of the candidates, held the most power over the House, and led the common people to believe that the Corrupt Bargain occurred. This is where Clay supposedly approached John Quincy Adams and gave him the presidency in exchange for making Clay Secretary of State. This rumor alone cost Adams many voters in the next election and the Tariff of Abominations was the final straw for him. This was when Jackson and Calhoun created the Tariff of 1832, a major tax bill that would allow for internal improvements, since Jackson knew Adams would want to pass the bill. During this period of time, westward expansion was an important goal throughout the nation. However, native populations were already assimilating and adapting with Christianity and cotton production. After the “death” of the Federalist party, 10 years after Hamilton’s death, the country thrived with a single party political system, George Washington’s ideal system. It left the presidential branch in the hands of the Anti-Federalists who increased tariffs in order to increase infrastructure in mainly northern states such as the Erie Canal; this happened primarily under John Quincy Adams presidency. The increase in tariffs did not benefit the southern states in the short term and therefore instilled their distaste for John Quincy Adams and the ever increasing tariffs. White male suffrage had sprung up in a few states and started spreading throughout almost all established states. This movement advocated for the common man to be allowed to have the right to vote. Andrew Jackson was widely seen as a man of the people and used white male suffrage to his advantage. He used the universal white male suffrage movement to help his campaign and was elected as president of the United States. He even signed a bill and made it a law. Doing this, Jackson had created his own political party and created thousands of new voters. Two other political parties sprouted from the hatred of Andrew Jackson.

The combination of that and The Era of Good Feelings ending, which marked the separation of the Southern Democrat party, allowed the voice of the common man to be heard. The era of the common man allowed Jackson to win the election and reshape the political landscape for all future presidents.
