My academic background includes a PhD in TEFL, alongside various degrees in education, law and health. I am passionate about research, community service, and sharing knowledge, as evidenced by my published work and ongoing public speaking engagements focused on behavior change, child development and innovative educational methodologies.

As a university lecturer, I am deeply committed to fostering critical thinking, ethical awareness, civic responsibility, and participatory values among my students. My teaching philosophy integrates theory with real-world application, encouraging students to engage with contemporary societal issues in Ethiopia and beyond. I have designed and delivered a range of courses within the areas of civics, ethics, democratic governance, political theory, and development studies. Beyond my teaching responsibilities, I have undertaken numerous research projects aligned with my field of specialization. My research interests focus on themes such as civic engagement, ethical leadership, social accountability, decentralization, and sustainable local development. My research is driven by a commitment to evidence-based approaches to governance and development, and I aim to contribute to the academic discourse as well as to practical solutions for societal challenges.

In addition to my academic and research roles, I also hold a key administrative position as the Quality Assurance Coordinator at the Mekaneselam campus of Mekdela Amba University. In this role, I am responsible for ensuring that academic programs meet national and institutional standards of excellence. I work closely with faculty, administrative staff, and university leadership to monitor academic performance, improve curriculum design, and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement. My work in this area reflects my dedication to advancing the mission of the university and enhancing the quality and relevance of higher education in Ethiopia.

Recently, I have developed a strong interest in technology and its applications in the fields of education, governance, and regional development. I recognize the transformative potential of digital tools in improving teaching methodologies, expanding access to knowledge, and increasing institutional efficiency. I am actively seeking to broaden my knowledge and skills in areas such as educational technology (EdTech), digital governance platforms, data management systems, and the use of ICT for sustainable development. I believe that integrating technology into my professional work can enhance both academic delivery and institutional outcomes, especially in the context of rapid global change and digital transformation.

My name is Gashaw Getaneh, and I am currently based at Mekdela Amba University, within the College of Computing and Informatics, serving in the Department of Information Technology. I earned my BSc degree in Information Technology from Wollo University.

Now at Mekdela Amba University, I am proud to be contributing to shaping the future of the next generation of tech leaders. As a dedicated academic with a strong passion for both teaching and technology, I thrive on blending hands-on development experience with meaningful, student-centered instruction.

My background is rooted in full-stack web development, with practical experience in building real-world applications like a Patient Information Management System, an Online IT Bookstore, and a travel-focused ERP system. I’ve also deepened my cloud expertise through the App-Factory Academy—a collaborative initiative between Wollo University, Microsoft-4Africa, Demera, and Skillsoft—where I’ve been training in Microsoft Azure Administration (AZ-104) and Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900).

Outside the classroom and code editor, I’m always eager to explore new ideas, design engaging online content, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in online education. Whether it's through GitHub, Udemy courses, or real-world projects, I believe in continuous learning and purposeful innovation.

I completed my Bachelor's degree at Woldia University, and Master’s degree in Environment and Land Resource Management from Debre Markos University.

I began my academic career at Woldia University in 2011 E.C, where I worked for several years, gaining valuable experience in teaching and academic service. Just over a year ago, I transitioned to Mekdela Amba University to continue my professional journey.

My teaching and research interests lie in environmental management, land use planning, and sustainable development. I’m passionate about guiding students to think critically about environmental issues and how they relate to human geography.

In my classes, I encourage active participation, practical learning, and open discussion to help connect theory with real-world environmental challenges.
