I think this idea could be interesting to explore visually, as I imagine creating a sensory journey for the user. I can explore the effects of music and ambience on an individual. Quite conceptual, lots of room to explore visually and be quite adventurous.

I am imagining either a physical attachment to a car or an app displaying where the drivers destination is, and the user has the option to hop in the car.

For example, 'John is driving to Scotland...request?'. I think last minute thrill seekers would thrive with an opportunity to randomly travel to Scotland on a Tuesday afternoon?

I find destination-less driving one of life's biggest pleasures, therefore if this was the company's USP, I could see not working quite well.

Specifically, I think this could be quite humorous if I specifically focused on just Big Tescos. Who doesn't love a random drive to big Tescos. Maybe this could be Tescos brand? they've just released their 'deliveroo' spin off 'Whoosh', why not capitalise on peoples love for driving there at night?

Branding is not just a pretty logo or interesting tagline to put on mugs and tote bags. A successful brand communicates some of the essence of the organisation. Even so, in recent years a giant paperclip (I promise this is true) has been erected outside Oslo in Vaaler's memory. There is, though, a perfectly serious reason for this seemingly mad moment in the world of public art. During the Second World War, when Norwegians were forbidden by their German conquerors from displaying national symbols, they began to wear paperclips in their clothes. Not only was it, in their minds, a Norwegian invention, but it symbolised the idea of holding on together. Soon enough it became a crime to be seen sporting a paperclip.

From a simple tool to a national symbol of resistance, the paperclip is a small triumph of everyday design.

When researching for this article, I came across many people that claimed that the paper clip was one of Norway’s most famous inventions. However, this is only a myth. While the Norwegian inventor Johan Vaaler did invent and file a patent for a paper clip, the original paper clip as we know and love was already invented and used.

The problem was that this paper clip was not yet in Norway, so Vaaler did invent something new. He just didn’t know that there was already a better product on the market.

And for reference, the paper clip Johan Vaaler invented was inferior to the the real paper clip because it lacked the last turn of the wire. There’s also a lot of controversy around the fact that Vaaler worked in a patent office, making some people claim that he didn’t really invent the paper clip himself.

Not readable, rough experimentation with erasing parts of the clip to spell Vaaler, but I don't like it and plan to revisit.
