In the NPR recording, "Brain Maturity Extends Well Beyond the Teen Years" the speaker, Sandra Aamodt, a neuroscientist, believes that maturity in adults happens after the age of 18, closer to the age of 25. 

 "So the changes that happen between 18 and 25 are a continuation of the process that starts around puberty, and 18 year olds are about halfway through that process. Their prefrontal cortex is not yet fully developed. That's the part of the brain that helps you to inhibit impulses and to plan and organize your behavior to reach a goal" (Aamodt). 

"For instance, a 20 year old is 50 percent more likely to do something risky if two friends are watching than if he's alone" (Aamodt).

Becoming an adult in china means that a big ceremony is thrown. This ceremony is considered one of the most important in Chinese history.

During these ceremonies Men would be allowed to finally wear hats and Women would finally be able to wear hair pins.

The date that these ceremonies would be held would be September 30th for any 18 year old.

"Holding the rituals could raise awareness among young people of a sense of responsibility to themselves and to society." This tribe marks that with the person experiencing pain physically. This tribe uses gloves filled with bullet ants that people have to wear for a total of several hours. "No initiate can be considered a true Indian until he has worn the gloves not once, 20 times."
