Kahoot is a useful resource to teach the rules of games and sports or to teach fitness concepts in PE. It can also be used for assessment purposes throughout a unit. Students have the app on their device and it works like a quiz format for the entire class. As teachers we can create pertinent questions and the students answer them like a live quiz. It has the ability to get very competitive! We are able to pick and choose the level of difficulty and focus on any unit of instruction we would like. Students find it fun to collaborate and compete together as I believe they can be grouped into teams or work individually.

One limitation might be it's used in all classroom settings and since distance learning it has lost it's novelty factor.

Mimove is an activity tracker students have access to on their own devices. As teachers we are able to monitor their movement minutes and type of movement, but most importantly we can monitor their reflections on how they felt, what they enjoyed and any other input the students are willing to add.

Teachers can set a minimum move time and congratulate students if they exceed the required minutes. We can also track what type of movement they do and make comments on their activity. Assessment can be done based o knowledge and understanding. Short videos and pictures can be posted for assessment purposes as well, but these are very slow to upload. What I love about this app is we are part of a greater global community (130 schools, 20 countries), so each week we get an email stating how our students rank in regards to other schools and positives that have been seen in our profile. Mimove also gives PD opportunities and my colleagues and I have become part of the board on making improvements.
One limitation of this app is it's a bit simple for the students, I feel like they are used to more exciting platforms. But for my lower primary students I think this will make it easy to use.

Popplet is extremely useful for different types of learners, visual learners will greatly benefit from this app. Mindmaps can be created during brainstorming sessions or during a knowledge harvest at the beginning of a unit of instruction. If in PE we are introducing a new sport or a unit on creating their own target games, this is a great app to get students expanding their creativity and sharing knowledge.

One limitation I found was the free version appears a bit complex for students to use. As a school we are only allowed so many apps for students, so I do feel using paper and pencil or a whiteboard for a knowledge harvest might be just as useful.

Class dojo is an app to be used for behavior and assigning simple tasks that get students reflecting on their social and emotional health. I am an advocate of mindfulness so this can be extremely helpful in extending our mindfulness topics. Students are given an icon and when they are given points by a teachers the icon makes a noise alerting the student on their device. PE teachers can collaborate with classroom teachers by sharing classes and giving dojo points when the students are in PE.

One limitation of this is as a PE teacher we often teach nearly every student in the school! So remembering to give students points or badges may prove to be overwhelming. It may prove to be more useful for the more difficult classes or students who have behavior issues, as it will reinforce behavior concepts that are in place in the classroom.

Hudl appears to be similar to Coaches Eye, which is useful for assessment purposes for lower and upper secondary students. But with the upheaval of team sports this proves to be a useful resource for keeping teams together and motivated, allowing online training routines and tips on skill development. Many coaches (who are teachers) will find this useful as a tool to rein students in for online training sessions and to motivate them for an alternate type of season.

The coaches blog has some great webinars for coaches to follow for PD opportunities and ideas to work on skill development.
One limitation is this app has a cost and is an additional platform for students to use. Most schools will more than likely be limited to the number of platforms they use in the Fall as to not create confusion.

Canva is a useful tool for making information posters for boards, emails and social media posts. It's fairly simple to use and allows for eye catching art work and pictures. It is a great app to be used for PE teachers for collaboration purposes, in order to keep secondary students engaged social media can be used for content, hashtags, and to keep families in the loop on lesson content or challenges posed to students. I feel all PE departments should have social media accounts to instill the importance of PE and PA for students and families!
