Each state has a set of learning standards with curriculum that is expected to be implemented in the classrooms, therefore such standards are the benchmarks when students and teachers are evaluated. I personally don’t agree with standardized testing because even though I might not want to, I’d start “teaching to the test” because the evaluations that are going to be given to me based on the way my students perform, but I’d also “teach to the test” not just because my job depends on it, but I’d also like to prepare my students as much as I can because the tests have important consequences, such as they can determine whether a student can pass to the next grade. Standardized tests can be problematic by the way how they don’t necessarily show what the students are capable of.
