From what i have seen, experienced and believe most work related accidents are due to a lack of training and supervision. What I mean by lack of supervision is many works will look for shortcuts to get things done, especially if a manager or supervisor are not present to make sure guidelines are being followed. It is during this time of cutting corners that some serious accidents can accrue. Illness is another thing here the police of stay home if your sick doesn't always work. Most of the time if your genuinely sick your employer will tell you to stay home so as not to get other employees sick yet we're in a society that say to tough it out and show dedication to the job. So if you go to work your blamed for getting other people sick nut apparently you really care about your job. If you stay home now one else gets sick but you don't care about your job. The whole thing is counter productive.

What I know about work related accidents are mostly due to complacency, lack of training and knowledge in the field. Complacency can cause many accidents, as one becomes too comfortable with their daily repetitive tasks they begin to pay less attention to the safety procedures put in place. Lack of training can cause accidents because it leaves a lot of room for error in the sense that one may not know how to properly operate the equipment, or understand the steps in completing the task. Also, if one lacks the general knowledge in the subject or equipment it can lead to accidents. I find that many organizations operate in high intensity, quick fixes to major problems.
As far as illnesses, I know that certain companies lack proper equipment in regards to safety hazards that can lead to illnesses.
Korinne Burns

There are many things I want to know in regards to organizational safety and illnesses, especially given the field of study I am in. What are the proper procedures in handling illnesses, and how does an organization prevent or minimize these illnesses? Furthermore, what are the costs for training on safety within an organization? How does an organization minimize all possibilities of accidents, including human error? What are the costs per year on average a company spends on fixing errors, and accounting for accidents?
Korinne Burns

What I learned about accidents and illnesses in the workplace "A safe culture doesn’t happen by requiring training sessions every year; it occurs by creating an environment in which people can recognize hazards and have the authority and ability to fix them" (University of Minnesota, 2016) which essentially holds employees accountable for promoting safety within the workforce without always having to put on training exercises for the employees. The company should also have policies in place for how violations will be handled.
The EAP program, employee assistance program, is put in place for employees to exercise in the event certain situations are hindering their progress at work. This can be anything from addictions to depression to other health related problems.
Korinne Burns

I learned that in most cases companies and even local laws will have polices and laws that state what are the correct procedures for performing certain tasks. Corners cut could mean that if corners are cut, if your injured you would no longer be cover by insurance you could also be in conflict with some type of legal ordinance. These should all be things that incentive's doing the wright thing. Training to reinforce these things to you employees should be done on an annual bases.
