Gallien tells Alex to take a pair of his work boots and some extra food his wife packed for his lunch. He drops Alex off at the edge of the park on the Stampede Trail. He thinks Alex will leave the park and come back to civilization once things start getting hard.

Analysis: It seems as though Jim Gallien found Alex on the side of the road. Alex also seems like this character that doesn't really care about anything as by showing that he doesn't care about the government's rules. Gallien also seems like he wants to help Alex out by offering a pair of his work boots and some extra food that his wife packed for his lunch. Gallien also seems to believe that Alex will return to civilization once things start getting hard.

The bus was bought and converted to workers housing, then left behind as shelter for hunters and campers after the construction project was abandoned due to a lack of funds. Three moose hunters cross the Teklanika River in their trucks and come across two other people who have already discovered the bus. The two other people decided not to go inside it because theres a bad smell coming from the bus. There is a note tied to the bus's antenna that says that Chris is sick and needs help. The note also says that gone out to get berries and he will return. Inside the bus the hunters find a rifle, paperback books, clothing, a backpack, and other supplies. In the back on a bunk is a dead body that is shrunken and small. One of the moose hunters at first had trouble determining that it was a person. The reader knows the body to be Christopher McCandless. The police have not yet been able to identify it. The hunters arrange for the body to be transported to Anchorage. State troopers arrive in a helicopter the next morning. Additional searches of the bus reveal rolls of film and McCandless's diary. The cause of death is starvation. The identity of the body still remains unknown.

Analysis: It seems as though Chris was sick and needed help which led to his death from starvation.

Westerberg also found out that McCandless was named Christopher Westerberg. McCandless enjoyed living with Westerberg cooking for and going drinking with the other people in the house. After a few weeks Westerberg had to leave to serve a short sentence following a felony conviction for pirating television signals. McCandless actually grew up in Annandale, Virginia in an upper middle-class household. His father Walt McCandless was an aerospace engineer and Chris's mother Billie was his business partner. Chris also refused his parents offer to pay for law school as well as their offer to buy him a car using the $24,000 remaining in his college fund. Chris also tells his parents that he thinks hes going to disappear for a while.

Analysis:
It seems that Chris was engaging and friendly and women would have found him as attractive. it also seems as Chris grew up wealthy but wanted to go out and explore nature instead.

Chris uses his real name and social security number to get a job at McDonalds in Bullhead City. He worked full time flipping burgers in the back. He showed up everyday on time and was well liked while working there. One of his assistant managers remembered he hated to wear socks which McDonalds requires their employees to wear. So Chris complied but as soon as his shift was over he would take his socks off. Another assistant manager remembered that Chris had an unfortunate odor. She had to tell Chris that he needs to shower more often and Chris didn't like that at all and three weeks later he quit.

Analysis:
It seemed that Chris was a good employee but didnt like the fact that one of the assistant managers told him to shower more often which made him quit.

Analysis: It seems that Chris and Ronald had a good friendship and that Ronald wanted to adopt Chris but Chris ended up going to Alaska so Ronald was waiting for Chris to come back but he never did and Ronald ended up finding out that Chris is dead and he denounced god for letting his friend die and withdrawed his church membership and resumed drinking.

Strangers drive Krakauer to the edge of a glacier called the Stikine Ice Pack and he begins his climb. He arrives at the edge of the Devils Thumb three days later. As he was climbing a snowstorm begun and he nearly fell through a crevasse before making it onto a glacial plateau to camp. He worries that supplies he had arranged will not arrive and that he will starve to death. In the morning a plane delivered his food. He began to climb again in perfect weather and climbs nearly 700 feet on sheer vertical ice. Then he failed to find any further footholds and had to climb back down.

Analysis: It seems as though Krakauer wanted to climb the Devils Thumb in Alaska and once he got to the Stikine Ice Pack he began to climb. He arrived at the edge of the Devils Thumb three days later. My future odyssey is to become an entrepreneur and start my own clothing brand. I want to be able to use my creativity on clothing and put my own twist too it. I just think it will be cool to be able to wear the clothes that I made. Other people will be able to purchase my clothes too and see the creativity I did with the clothing. I want to have my own store that sells my clothing and any other stuff that I plan on making in the future. I've seen multiple celebrities start their own clothing brand and I want to have my own clothing brand as well. I want my clothing to be versatile too whether you are playing sports, going on a fancy date, or just a casual outfit. I want my clothing brand to be one of the top clothing brands in the world. That is my future odyssey.

In this chapter Walt and Billie go to the bus (page 202) where Chris died (page 202) at. They take a helicopter (page 201) to get there. Billie also looks through Chris's belongings inside the bus. Billie also leaves a first aid kit (page 202) and a note (page 202) for the next person that goes to the bus. Then the helicopter comes back and they leave.

Analysis: I can totally understand why Walt and Billie wanted to see where Chris died at. It must be heartbreaking for Billie to look through Chris's belongings in the bus since hes not alive anymore. It must also bring back good memories for Billie as she was looking through Chris's belongings. I also think its nice that Billie left a first aid kit and a note for the next person that goes to the bus cause they won't have to go through the same thing that Chris went through.

I did have some respect for Chris though when he donated $24,000 to charity and just the fact that he was able to survived 113 days in the wilderness cause I for sure would not be able to do that. I mean this man literally left everything for the wilderness so I give him respect for that. I also did not like the way Chris treated his sister Carine. Carine and Chris were really close and the fact that Chris just left her out of nowhere is really messed up. I also didnt like the way Chris treatedc Ronald Franz. Ronald really cared about Chris and wanted to adopt him but Chris just vanished. Although no one is perfect I do admire Chris for chasing his dreams and not letting anyone tell him different. He might not have gotten the ideal result he wanted be he will forever be a legend for what he did and accomplished within those 113 days when he was in the wilderness.
