Japan Day: organized by the Consul of Japan in Cape Town and Stellenbosch University's Japan Center (SUJC).

They organized several workshops and talks. There were demonstrations of different Japanese martial arts.

This was from the Mokuhanga workshop during the Japan Day.

Tools used in this workshop:

4 wood blocks for the different layers of the image.
Gold, yellow, green, red, and blue pigments.
Dampering and printing brushes.
A paper.

Go: World's Hardest Game

Go is a two-player strategy board game that aims to fence off more territory than the opponent.

I (black) lost to my friend (white). As seen, they managed to secure more territories and capture many points.

Fun fact: There is an AI model, developed by Google Deepmind, called AlphaGo.

Using a mix of rice water and ink, we color the parts that will be printed on the paper.

After fixing the paper on the wood block, we put a parchment paper over the block and press with our wrist on the paper to print the colours on the paper.

Now we repeat this on every block.

I had this rice onigiri at the Japan Day. They have already prepared the rice triangles and let me wrap the rice with the seaweed.
