The communities culture was very diverse, people of the same culture often stuck with the same people. The community itself was very divided until Kim begins to grow lima beans. This lead to the buidling of their community because people would come and beging a garden. Having all similiar hobbies it helped each other have something to talk about with people from different cultures. The garden helps people trust there negihbors and bring them together. It shows others that just because someone is part of a different culture does not mean that they are harmful or criminals, the garden allows others to see the true colors of all people.

Are there characters who demonstrated prejudice? If so, who and how did the characters demonstrate prejudice? (Gianna)

One character that demonstrated prejudice is Gonzalo. Gonzalo has prejudice beliefs towards his own family. This is shown by his belief that "the older you are, the younger you get when you move to America." It is clear by this that he thinks that the older generation of immigrants are ignorant, and not smart. He continuously undermines his Tío Juan and believes that he cannot do things, just because he does not speak English and hasn't fully adapted to American culture.

In seedfolks one character that demonstrated racism was Ana. Ana demonstrated racism by sterotyping. She steryotypes Kim by calling her chinese just being her apperaance when really she is vietnamese. Marcela is a victom of racism like most other characters because she is mexican. People often give her dirty looks because they believe she got into America illegal.

1. Classroom Community Garden
After reading Seedfolks students will be inspired to partake in a community classroom. Seedfolks showed how simple things, like a garden, can bring people closer together. Taking care of a garden will make an elementary classroom a stronger community as students and educators will learn more about each other. Some students may bring in seeds that represent a plant from their culture, or their favorite plant, and so on. Learning these things about each other will be a gateway for them open up to each other and grow as a community.
2. Journaling
The short passages in Seedfolks were first hand accounts about what the characters feeling, seeing and wondering. Adding journaling into the classroom routine would be easy and enjoyable activity for the children. Journaling will allow students to practice their literacy skills, and possibly support their social, emotional, and creative development. Seedfolks gives students a good example of how they can journal, but journaling can be done in their own unique way.
