To be taken from your parents by a God was a very popular ancient account or "explanation" of where missing children in Japan went to. Just like book Alice in Wonderland, or The Phantom Tollbooth, the child is whisked away to a far off land, where things kind of make sense, but not really. Things seem a bit off.

River spirits get dirty, and need to be cleansed. It is a reminder that everything needs to have rest at some point, this was a fantasy way of explaining it.

The logographic characters known as Kanji give hints to what the characters are about. Yubaba (The Spa owner)  Kanji means hot water, Zeniba's (The Sister of Yubaba) means money. 

 125 minutes being the longest Anime film that has won an Academy Award. 

It is now one of many Anime films that I enjoy, one of my top 5 for sure, being Miyazaki's: Princess Mononoke 1997,  being number one on the list followed by Howl's Moving Castel, 2004, My Neighbor Totoro 1988, 
Kiki's Delivery Service 1989, and now Spirited Away 2001. 

I am an animation nut, I went to Comic Con 2016 by myself, to NYC for the first time ever, my mind was blown away. Watching this movie, I would say that most people remember the impatience of being that young, having to do something that you don't want to. Missing your friends, school, or some sort of loss, and at a young age it is very hard to deal with prepubescent emotions, they come of as bratty. 

The story briefly is about a young girl moving away, finding herself lost in a place that humans should not be, and her adventures, and misadventures of her navigating this world. Her parents are taken from her, and she has to figure out how to not only save them, save her friend, and get out of this of place before she is stuck there. 

It was one of the only Miyazaki films I haven't seen yet, my best friends sister (who would have watched this with me but our scedules do not mesh) had the DVD which I borrowed. No film is out of my comfort-zone, if there is a great story, and as long as I can either have subs-or dubs, I will watch it.

I am glad I asked around to find this, my friends sister has a lot of anime, and I asked if she had this, and of course she did. She was shocked that I have never seen this before, but alas I didn't.
