Once Article 50 is triggered, they will have to come to an agreement by April 1st, 2019. It will take time for the EU countries to formulate their position on the UK's requests. Then they will have to compromise and find a deal, and finally sign a treaty for setting a new relationship to be ratified and implemented. Funny thing is, this will take more than 2 years to do. And for those investors out there, be ready to lose a lot of money.

June 2016, the EU published its European Global Strategy, trying to set out a coherent framework for the relationships with other countries. This created a new level of cooperation with NATO for different "Hybrid" threats and plans for new security and defense inside of the EU. This notwithstanding, the EU was still a marginal player on security issues.

To sum it up, it's just a bunch of numbers about the amount of immigration that has happened. And how Turkey feels that the EU did not acknowledge the threat the PKK really was. And how the EU is not willing to to give Turkey visa freedom

One effects of Brexit has been to reduce support in the remaining 27 countries to give the idea o f leaving the EU. The last Eurobarometer polls tell that the confidence in the EU have been arrested. In 2017 immigration and terrorism were the main issues for the EU to handle. The dominant political parties have lost there support to populist forcing focusing on the anti-immigration, anti-trade and anti-Europe issues.

The new Safe Harbour agreement will be challenged in the European Court of Justice. There is also a significant risk that the Trump administration will go back on some of the assurances on surveillance issues given to non-US citizens. We will still see mercantilist tendencies in the debate about data flows in some EU countries, and restrictions on how data can be stored will impose costs on business in the EU.
