I got to experience a trip with my mother. Two things I love: my mother and animals. I was in awe of so many species and their innocence. I started to think how humans destroy other species habitats and yet we complain about spilled water. I began to think about how much animals truly are suffering in the wild due to our human carbon imprint. Climate change is real, it has been been an occurrence before and it is happening again and our neighboring friends are suffering and so are we at this point. I wondered when are we going to start to care? Is it when I can’t go outside due to acidic rain? Or when our dogs are wondering why they cannot breathe properly?? My mother and I began to discuss about animals and we got to enter onto each other’s inner thoughts and that was also what I enjoyed about this trip. I began to open my mind through thinking and began to open up communication of my thoughts to the one I love: my mother.

I decided to finish some community service hours by attending the Morton 201 television broadcast with Telemundo & ABC News. This experience brought so many Morton students, families and the Cicero community to gather in the Community Park to show up Morton Pride and simply having fun with raffles and games. The rich culture of music and art was immense. Folkloric dancers performed, Morton band had performed and so much more. I saw a unity between the school and the community and it is something I haven’t experienced back in my original Northside home. Morton and Cicero has shown itself as a prime example of what a community is by giving so many opportunities to have a joyful time with the rest of the Cicero community. People made friends and showed up live on television. It was surreal to experience a real unified community with peace and prosperity.

Animation Journey

During the summertime I began to wonder: what should I learn?? I always enjoyed to draw or at least attempt to. Flipaclip app came through: an animation app. I began to open a door of creativity through technology and actually be decent at it. It made me appreciate the process of making animation because every detail brings life to an image & being able to make that image into life through technology is surreal. Every failure is a step closer to success and animation showed me to never say I could never do anything because once you try and try it’ll eventually come into place.

I spent most of my summer in the Morton Pre AP lang/ APUSH class. I earned .5 credits through this class and I can honestly say that it was worth every moment and day I was there. I made new friends by putting myself in the spotlight to help others and make others comfortable even when I wasn’t. I met new people and entered my junior year with familiar faces. I got a headstart with my classes and have a further understanding on my AP classes. My teachers Mr.Tondelli and Ms.Tinoco provided an artistic side to our learning by introducing an artist who soecializes in recycled art and ethnic art. I learned to not be so focused on being perfect on everything I do but to be mindful and in the moment with everything I do. This brought me a sense of security entering junior year.

Summer 2k19

Once I was officially an upcoming Junior, my heart dropped. It wasn’t because I was entirely nervous about the next step of my high school journey (reminder entirely) instead, I was afraid of what is considered the best time of my life: Summertime. For the past two years I’ve dreaded summer, not because of the immense heat but because I’m actually terrified. I’m terrified of not knowing what to do, I’m terrified of how I ahould spend my time. What if I’m wasting my life? Am I productive? Why am I living? I developed depression, OCD abd anxiety. My inner battle with my ferocious and unmerciful thoughts always tore me down. I ended up in a psychiatric hospital; twice. Am I able to get through the summer without ending up at the hosptial the thrid summer in a row? Am I strong enough?? These type of thoughts raced my head. I began my summer journey with an immense amount of anxiety; I almost landed into the hospital. I became obsessed with how I control my time and felt guilt for having so much leisure time. My mother gave up work temporarily for me. I ended NOT going to the hospital. I turned my summer into a time where I am able to explore new opportunities & become a better person everyday through experiencing new things and helping others. I found freedom for the first time during Summer. I’m not afraid anymore. I love summertime. I love living. I am filled with gratitude for what this summer brought me, I found a deep connection with God & the love support system I have with my family. So to Summer: thank you for everything.

FOREX Skill

Money. Oh, how tempting to just get a job. To my dismay, I was still 15 years old and jobs start accepting 16 year olds. I was very disappointed. I felt like I was missing out and am always being treated as a child. My peers were already working as lifeguards, McDonald’s, the mall etc. Here I was at home sad and broke. I was scrolling through social media and found about FOREX. Oh boy, I took that and ran with it. I began to research how to use reading charts through Japanese candlesticks and how to properly prepare trades.
I began to open up trades with a 0.01 lot size instead of a standard of 1.00.
I earned $80 dollars by doing so. I was hyped but then I got greedy and of course I lost money. FOREX brought me where I am today and is teaching me how to be financially responsible and earn an extra source of income as well as residual income. I never thought I would be the type of person to read charts and understand them and now I am. It is a business I’m still willing to learn and it brought me a personal growth by showing me discipline and gratitude for what I already have.

Dance Team 💃🏽

I always was insecure and uncomfortable towards my outward public identity and dance was something I never thought I’d actually do. I was introduced in the DFQ Crew through a friend and I made the team. I was so excited and nervous. Would people think I’m slow? Am I slow?? Why am I so awkward?? I then began to work harder and harder and I began to improve in dance. I got a solo lyrical and that was an eye opener to me. I began to see myself grow not just by dancing but by putting myself out there and feel confident. I now am able to perform a solo and work on my technical skills. The video below is one of my first dances ever learned, I really look awkward but I appreciate that awkwardness. It shows me a time where I was hoping to improve and here I am: confident. I learned to be unafraid of the unknown and began to explore my inner contentment with myself. I usually present myself as confident but really dance showcased my insecurities and now I am able to work and embrace my flaws.

In our pre APUSH class with Ms.Tinoco, our class was assigned to create a self protrait through recyclable trash through homemade glue and paper. We found creative ways to make a creation of what inspires us and what we intended to showcase to the world. I did a face that could represent me and my ethnic background with a dandelion in the back. Most people are annoyed by dandelions, they pop up everywhere on people’s yards. They try and try so hard to remove the dandelion but little do they know, dandelions once blown are grown through its seeds. Dandelions represebt resilience and regardless of what society tells us about our worth, we know that we are much more than a pesky weed but s beautiful and unfleeting creation filled with yellow: joy.

I finally got a sense of liberation knowing that me and my mother are strengthening our relationship by doing things together. My mother always sacrificed her time to work immensely hard with dedication in order to feed and care for me as a single mother. Our impulsive trip on the lake from Shedd Aquarium to Navy Pier May seem insignificant but it meant so much to me. I had a chance to enjoy a normal moment with my mother to enjoy our trip and enjoy our company with each other. This trip opened a door for me and my mother to become more open and deepen our relationship and this trip is one of the many times we have and will connect further. This trip brought me a healing full of glorious feelings and I’m very grateful for this amazing trip over the summer. It was once in a lifetime.
