Dorian, once he sees the completed portrait of himself in his youth makes a "deal with the devil." This is the first point at which the portrait changes and Dorian picks up on the change and realizes that his portrait will take on the consequences of his actions. This change of cruelty in the expression came after he broke up with Sybil and said that he never wanted to see her again because he was never in love with her, just with her acting. After receiving little yellow book from Lord Henry, Dorian begins to live his life indulgently and seeking after pleasures. This would normally cause his body to age and cause different marks on his appearance, yet he remains just as beautiful as he was several years ago. This change in the portrait occurs after Dorian murders Basil. He murders Basil because he is filled with hatred toward Basil after seeing how awful his portrait looks because of the way he had been corrupted and done so many awful things. Even after doing a good deed, Dorian's painting still did not change for the better. In reality this is because when he performed this good deed with the intention to improve his image that was being presented in the painting instead of his intention being that he wanted to do something good because it was the right thing to do. Seeing his unchanged portrait only drove Dorian's anger to a peak which is when he decided to destroy the portrait because he wanted to rid the evidence of who he had become. In order to destroy the corruption and the soul in the portrait he destroyed himself because he was the real problem, not the portrait.
