What is AimsWeb Plus testing?

Aimsweb is an online system that benchmarks and monitor student progress based on direct, frequent, and/or continuous student assessment. Student assessments claim to be accurately measured in reading, math, spelling, and writing. The company Pearson, Inc. produces this instrument and helps provide K-12 curriculum that coincides with state standards.
This system supports Response to Intervention and tiered instruction. Results from aimsweb testing allow educators to identify students at risk, monitoring progress, and differentiating instruction.
During an aimsweb assessment, the questions will be personalized for each student based on their ability to answer questions correctly, spell correctly, write and speak fluently, perform mathematics, and read.

- Equivalence of probe difficulty, within each grade level.
Regardless of which grade-level probe is administered, a student's expected score should be the same. This feature of aimsweb is important for RTI when progress monitoring so that the trend of scores across time will not be influence by the difficulty the probe varies.

-Alternate-form reliability:
"The agreement between scores on alternate forms administered relatively close together in time. This type of reliability indicates how free the score is from changes due to day-to-day fluctuations and from differences in the specific content of the probes.

-Interrater reliability:
"The agreement among scores calculated by independent raters. This type of reliability is especially relevant when scoring requires judgment.

This is not only a cool feature of aimsweb, but also a great advantage for educators!!
There is NINE reports available through aimsweb
-Student individual benchmark
-Student individual progress monitoring
-Teacher-level reports such as the Summary Report
-Summary reports at the class, grade, school, district, or state levels.
-Subgroup reports with disaggregated data
-RTI tier reports
-ELL Profile reports
-Student growth percentile reports
-longitudinal data reports

Another feature is how the test is administered through an online programming on a computer and all students will be assessed three times a year, this is benchmarking. The first administering should be during the first four weeks of school. The midpoint of the year another test should be administered. Then sometime during the last for weeks of school the last test should be administered.
However, strategic monitor provides schools with the option to increase assessment frequency for students at risk.

The last feature worth mentioning is the integration of MTSS that drastically helps teachers in determining who would be in what tier. There is a "Tier Transition" report that displays the percentage of students in each tier in fall, winter, and spring. This is very useful when determining how effective the instruction was in that classroom. It also displays the student growth percentiles.

-K-3 has a feature for Dyslexia screening and the data from the screenings can be used to set direction for intervention and instructional planning for all students, and comes with handouts to give to parents and caregivers for support outside of school.

-Social and Emotional learning can come from being administered aimsweb. There are five key social-emotional skills that aimsweb helps students with: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. These are not things a student would necessarily be graded on, but is something an educator should be taking note of so they can help respond to their student's needs when it comes to behavior and emotional difficulties.
