Since the very first showing of Inuit graphics in 1959, she contributed to every Cape Dorset annual print release.

- Her 1960 print Enchanted Owl has become an iconic image in Canadian art and her 1959 print Rabbit Eating Seaweed is one of the rarest images in Inuit art.

She was a stalwart of the West Baffin Co-operative print shop and also a carver who created many wonderful sculptures (until 2001, when it became simply too physically demanding for her).

-Over the years, she received commissions to produce images for institutions, charities, cultural events and celebrations, as well as becoming the first Inuit to design a stained-glass window for a chapel in Ontario.

-She is regarded today as a Canadian national treasure. She is an inspiration for generations of artists. She received every conceivable award and honour that any Canadian could acquire in the arts.

- Her imagery has been displayed on Canadian stamps and coins, her life portrayed in books and films, and her art sought all over the world by collectors, corporations and museums.

1) What methods does this activist use to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people?

This artist used her art to present the life of the Inuit people to the rest of the world. She thus brought together indigenous and non -indigenous people that were inspired by her work and the themes that she promoted in her art. Furthermore, the recognition she received by having her art displayed on Canadian Post stamp and coins also provided further exposure of Inuit life to non-indigeneous people.

2) What is your activist's main message to the public?
Through her art, Kenojuak Ashevak presented to the world the life of the Inuit in Nunavut, the beautiful land, the environment and the life of ordinary people. Her implicit message to the public was that, like her, the Inuit of Nunavuk were kind, humble and simple people living a life in harmony with their environment. Perhaps another message to the public was that it would be in the benefit of all of us for this life and land to be left undisturbed.

3) Why did you pick this activist?
I picked this activist because I love art and I admire this artist for the amount of effort and time she put into her projects. Furthermore, I believe a picture speaks 1000 words and, as a result, is much more powerful than verbally sending a message. A picture also has the advantage of letting a person perceive and interpret the image in their own way.
