1)While Cahill advocates that consumerism is based on peoples' emotions so, it can be easily manuplated by corporations as a community. However, Twitchell(1999) argues that "you are what you eat."(p. 1). For this reason , the catchphrase indicates that things we buy form who we are.
2) Consumerism is a concept to some people that is democratic and it gives the freedom to buy whatever and whenever we want. However, it has become production more than consumption in a way it has become people's expectations.
3) Thanks to consumerism, people are developing more technological devices which help people's daily lives.

Cahill (2001) thinks that people consume without their wishes but Twitchell (1999) states that people decide what they consume in order to create a profile in society. For Twitchell's ideas, how and what they consume is reflect democracy and freedom level.

1-We can handle consumerism’s negativities by campaigns like The Toms shoe brand.By buying one shoe they send the same one to Africa. It may be a solution for the example in Twitchell’s(1999)by someone who killed a kid for a pair of shoes.
2-By supporting recycle we can decrease the negative affects of consumerism .Like in Izmir/Turkey when you recycle bottles the machine gives pet food for street animals like dogs and cats. We can invent machines like that more for different things.

However as people consume more in order to have a better identity compared to other people, they might lose control and consume much more than they need, it may result in a worse economical situation for them
