Work with the Musical Director/Choreographer so that the costume is suitable for the singing/dancing/movements that is required

Create costumes for the final piece by researching credible sources (example: if we need a costume for someone playing Paul Hollywood, watch shows like the Great British Bake-off to see his clothes and go off that)

As a group, we wanted to recreate a movie like Bohiemian Rhapsody or Rock of Ages. But we decided to save that kind of performance until later in the year, for our 2nd module. We decided to go for a series of tv shows adapted for comedic purposes.

We went with this because we have 7 peope in our group, and this choice gave us a range of job roles including: Producer; Costume Designer; Editor; Camera Operator, and many more.

We are going to reconstruct this by researching different TV shows and testing to see if we can keep the meaning of the show but then adapt it to add an aspect of comedy

My Job role is Costume Designer, this role entails creating a costume and liasing with the director.

Nat: Props/Equiptment

Harry: Director

-Research costume styles and materials to appropriately link with the time period/location.

-Produce designs for the costumes, by hand or by software

-Create costumes and accessories

-hire costumes if needed. Fit, alter and repair costumes.

-Make sure costumes are well maintained and stored properly for future use.

Another thing I had to take into consideration was the maneuverability of the costumes. For example, in our Strictly come Dancing segment, we had to have 2 actors dance. This mean I had to find costumes that would not only suit the style of the piece but also be able to dance in. So for this, I had to work with the Director and the Choreographer to confirm that the costumes that I had selected suited the piece and was suitable for what the actors were required to do.

In our pitch, we explained how we wanted to do multiple different shows and mock then. I believe I played a big role in achieving this. I think this because the costumes dictate which way the audience perceives a character. For example, a man in a nice suit doesn't automatically seem out the blue, but a man in a dress with a funny wig on and a dress that still matches the character adds the comedic aspect.

I believe that I communicated well with the cast aswell as the director and other job roles to ensure that I did my job to the best of my abilities

After this process of being a costume designer, I have realised my organization skills are better than I thought as I was able to have all the costumes picked out and ready for shooting and I was able to give the cast enough time to supply the costumes I needed from them. A weakness I showed however and one I need to work on is my making skills, during this process, I didn't need to make many costumes, but if I was to be a costume designer again I may need to. So I will have to look Into the art of creating costumes if I was was to continue down this path.

In my next H21 and H22 projects, I will continue to be organized, but as I will be doing a stage show, I won't have as many costumes to do, but I will need to go through with more detail and continue to make sure it is all on point. Because if the costumes don't send the right message it could be really hard for a live audience to understand what's happening live on stage.
