They make the pictures look so nice that the products look good to present and they post advertisements all over so people would see them or hear about them.

 I think that advertisements connect to the poem because it shows advertisements can be lies or some of them are too expensive like houses, perfumes, clothes, etc. but the houses they lived in didn't once show any lies. It shows what is going on in their lives and how they are dealing with it and how they can't even dream about anything because they have to think about their situations.

The imagery is literal but the visual is being shown in a negative tone. It is always showing the parents are happy to see their children and it kind of shows parenting in a negative and positive way. Then lines 11-20 show how diction has a negative connotation, the tone used here is detached, wrongful, and sincere. The mood is hopeless and melancholic. Brooks is targeting herself and it relates to her or any woman because they feel guilty and responsible for aborting their child due to many reasons. Then from lines 21-30, the tone is ambivalent and blunt. Lastly, line 31-33 is shown as being reflective and compassionate tone. This is because she loved all her children but she couldn't bring them into this world due to many reasons such as not being able to buy stuff so not financially stable, young age, etc. The diction is shown to be very emotional and positive in a way. This poem is showing the sacrifices and how hard it is for a woman and how women should have their own rights because it's their body. The author uses a really negative and disappointing tone in order to shape a specific mood of sadness and anger Tony is feeling. The reader also feels sadness and anger mood because Tommy Orange is stating how the mother was in the wrong by drinking during her pregnancy which caused Tony to have fetal alcohol syndrome. Also, another way the reader might feel sadness/anger is that Tony's mother didn't even tell Tony's father that he existed and Tony thinks his mother thinks that he is simple. This shows how angry Tony is and how he doesn't want to hear any excuses from his mother. This passage shows a negative tone and diction by calling his dad a motherfucker, don't fucking call me simple, we didn't, doesn't know I exist, and you fucking did this to me. This is important because the author is telling that if some people do wrong things there might be a reason for it and that everyone's life isn't perfect. The author uses a really sad, confusing, hurt, and questioning tone in order to shape a specific mood of sadness and hurtful emotion Dene is feeling. The reader also feels sadness while reading this section of the chapter because Tommy Orange is stating how Dene's uncle is dying. Dene never had a father figure in his life the only male-like figure Dene had was his uncle but now Dene finds out that his uncle is dying due to drinking a lot and now he is going threw a lot of emotions because he found out how his uncle is going to die. The author uses a really negative and hurtful tone in order to shape a specific mood of anger because the sisters don't know much about their heritage and they don't want to be acting like "Indians" and they don't have much of a connection to their culture and they don't like their names. As the reader, I felt sadness and anger because it is sad that they don't much about their heritage and where they come from. Also, it makes me mad because they are just talking bad/rude things about the people of their culture. Tommy Orange uses words like Pig-brained, You're not Indian, and fault to show how the tone/diction is still negative from the first two-three chapters. This shows how some people didn't know that much about their heritage and there was a lot of rude talking and racism going on and people kind of had to follow or listen to people who were saying all of these things to the colored or other races. The author uses a really neutral/ somewhat confusing tone to shape a specific mood of being calm and still somewhat confused because Edwin does not know much about his father or anything about his Native side because his mother did not really teach him much about that side and she didn’t really know much about Harvey. Edwin is confused because he is trying to find his father but doesn’t know anything about anything and he knows nothing about his heritage he is sad because he does want to know about his father and he does want to know about his Native side that his mom kept from him. As the reader, I felt a connection in a way because I saw a movie about a white family adopting a child who’s of color and they don’t really know what heritage they are going to teach or they don’t want it and it is unfortunate because sometimes the child wants to learn about their culture but they really can’t due to many reasons. Also, it makes me mad in a way because everyone should have the right to learn about their heritage because that shows us or others who we are and where we come from and we should be proud of that it’s just frustrating when some people don’t want to teach their kids about who they are and where they come from. I decided to create a collage based on the poem "Primer For Blacks" by Gwendolyn Brooks. I decided to base my collage on the poem's final stanza. The speaker introduces the poem by referring to blackness as a "commitment" and a "title" as you read it. The speaker continues by pointing out how it is easy to believe that being white is a positive thing in white society and that many black individuals would express a similar opinion. There is positive diction used consistently throughout the whole poem. The final stanza expresses confidence. The tone is really powerful, and Brooks is attempting to encourage the reader to be proud of who they are and of themselves. I chose this section of the poem because it has many capitalized words. For example, Brooks is discussing the terrible things our country's founding fathers did to black women. She states, "I'VE got the blood of George WASHington in MY veins," and it's clear that Brooks is attempting to make a point about how George Washington owned slaves and sexually assaulted women of color while also making an angry statement. Another line from the poem is "I'm half INDian." People didn't want to live here; instead, they wanted to go live with the Native Americans since they were helping them out. This is why she uses the phrase "Indian." They wanted to go because of how the founding fathers mistreated them and how they just sexually assaulted women I chose to add pictures of the founding fathers, Native Americans, a photo of blood, and a people of black people because I wanted to show how they all connect and how Brooks is trying to address history that we often don't learn about. Brooks is also demonstrating how you should recognize that "you" are all descendants of one race. All parties must come together to appreciate the variety and strength of Black people. She is also attempting to convey the idea that it is acceptable to be colored and to be proud of who you are. I chose to respond this way because it's uncommon for us to learn about the actions of the founding fathers. Also how a lot of people think being black is simple. Honestly from being a colored person myself, it's not easy to be another race than white. People make stereotypes, they think we might do something wrong. They have these weird and hurtful stereotypes for no reason. A lot of colored people get killed for things they didn't do or just because someone thinks they were trying to hurt them but in reality, they weren't doing anything wrong. I choose to add pictures to show the connection between the founding fathers, Native Americans, and Black people. I also added lines from the poem to show the powerful words Brooks uses. What I'm trying to achieve by this is trying to address how Black people have to go through things and how sometimes they wish they were not even black because of how the black community is treated they are accused, killed, and many other things. Also, people of color should be proud of who they are and just keep going because we live in a world where stereotypes are made and sometimes people get accused of things but we shouldn't be put down due to people. We should be proud of our skin color, our race, our culture, and many other things we should be proud of.  The author uses a really neutral tone but it switches a lot as it goes from telling to neutral and just saying to do things so there are a lot of commands in a way. We know that Edwin is going through a lot because there was a situation that happened on the Bus. his mother is trying to ask Bill to pick him up. But Bill is trying to tell Karen that Edwin should do things on his own and try to be independent but Karen does not understand where Bill is coming from. In a way, all of these chapters connect a lot because there are a lot of sad/emotional situations going on in their lives and the characters don't know what to do. They are tied up in a way. As the reader, I felt really sad because in every chapter we are reading we get to find out that everyone is going through a lot and they are really tied up in a situation where they are trying to get out of but they really can not. Also, it makes me have a connection with some of my friends and family members because they also have some things going on but they can't do much. They just have to rely on someone they trust a lot. This is important because the author is telling us that there are people going through a lot and they need support and it can be hard for them if we just leave them on their own.

The author uses a really neutral tone at the beginning then towards the end of the quote I picked out the tone was really disappointing and really hopeless in my opinion this is because at first, it's stating how Calvin is living with his sister but towards the end of the quote it says there father disappeared and he hadn't been around their life. Calvin is trying to save up money so he can move out but he is also confused in a way because his mother made Calvin and Maggie feel that their father was there but in fact, he really was not. In a way, all of these chapters connect because most of the characters had no father or male figure in their life and they were all disappointed and really sad. So far I'm seeing a connection in the chapters. As the reader, I felt really sad because in every chapter we read we get to find out that some of the characters don't have a father figure in their life and it's really sad because they were going through a lot in their life. Also, it makes me have a connection with my cousins because they don't have a mother figure in their life and it's really hard for them and it just makes me really sad. This is important because the author is telling us that there are struggles in life where you do need to save up money and not spend as much.  The author uses a really neutral tone to explain the alcoholic situations going on with Jacquie. As we read the Opal chapter we found out that Opal and Jacquie are sisters and Jacquie was assaulted at the party she went to and later found out that she was pregnant. These chapters had a lot of things going on: sad, disappointing, hurtful, and very hopeless. The authors use words to explain all of these moods/tones. I felt unfortunate while reading these chapters because getting assaulted while drunk and later finding out you are pregnant is a lot to handle and sometimes it happens to younger girls who can not do much because they are scared. Also, it makes me have a connection with some movies I wanted in the past where these things did happen to people which is very sad. Here in this quote we still get to so after years Jacquie is a counselor for people who drink but she also comes to work sober. This is important because the author is telling us that there are people who have problems with using drugs and they are addicted there are many counselors for that type of situation but sometimes their life can be hard in a way and that's why Jacquie comes and hears people's problems. This made me think she has changed a lot because she used to go to parties and get drunk and now she is sober and so many years.

The author uses a very sad, disappointing tone to explain what happened with Jacquie's daughter Jamie. For example, shot, died, didn't, withdrawal. After Jamie's death, Opal takes care of Jacquie's grandchildren. While reading this chapter there were a lot of mixed emotions going on because Jamie committed suicide when her children were so young. I felt really sad because Orvil and his brother their mother weren't there neither there father. Now Jacquie just left them also. Opal was really nice to take care of them and try to give them the love they need. This is really important because it shows how Orvil and his brother didn't really have that great of a childhood they had a lot of things going on which were really sad and hurtful. This connects to global issues because there are parents who commit suicide or any people not just parents due to so many reasons they are going through which is sad and a lot of can't do much to know what that person is going through so we have to be cautious about saying things to others or judging them before because you never know what they are going through. The author is using a natural tone but is explaining how blood works. I thought the diction of this quote was really weird in a way or disturbing how the author was explaining about the blood. For example, they use words like blood is messy, runs clean, looks blue, it's water, and it divides. While reading this part of blood it did give me the chills honestly because the explanation was really good but it was kind of disturbing in a way. Also, this had a big connection to me because if you get hurt you think all of these things about blood, like how messy it is and how it flows. It feels like water or it is water but just the color is red. I feel like the reader or anyone who reads this part is going to feel this way because they seen blood and might have thought about the same things that were mentioned in this book. In my opinion, this part of the chapter was really sensitive and really sad/disturbing in a way also. The diction is very negative. For example, hit, swung the bat, and pulled her ankles. I thought this was very negative because we can tell that Ronald was about to sexually assault Jacquie which is a very sensitive topic. This is very important because we get to see how Jacquie went through a lot like she got pregnant and how her sister and she had to escape from Ronald that's a lot of trauma to handle. This is also really important because the author is trying to explain how Jacquie went through a lot which may have caused her sadness or how she is now. Also, I think the author is trying to tell us how everyone goes through a lot and in different ways so we should not judge them. We should get to know what they are going through. Also, we can see how all the characters had some type of trauma going on in their life. Lastly, I think the biggest msg from this part of the book/chapter is to stay safe and be aware because you really don't know what can happen or what type of person you are around until you find out the truth.

The diction used in this part of the book was very simple, like natural because I think this was told in the second person point of view so it was kind of all over the place in my opinion. There was a lot of imagery used in this quote. For example, there were auditory uses like heartbeat, rhythm, and drum. While reading this we can imagine and hear all of these sounds. I also thought there was visual imagery used when they were saying heart, spine, bone, brain, skin, blood, and vein. In my opinion, reading these words was like trying to see all of them in our minds and see what the author is trying to tell us. Also, we can see how Thomas Frank's natural love of rhythm and music demonstrates that there are cultural legacies besides trauma and strife, but it also implies the possibility that these forces suddenly enter life and flip everything upside down. Lastly, he was embarrassed by his culture and he is going through some things also. - Well what I learned about implicit bias is that implicit bias is the term for accidental attitudes, behaviors, preferences, and classifications that influence behavior and comprehension. implicit bias is frequently used in higher education to describe unintentional racial or economic discrimination against students, which can be as common as explicit bias. I also learned that there is a thing called schema. An example, of schema, is that your schema for your friend, for instance, can include specifics about her looks, mannerisms, personality, and preferences.

- It can impact our interactions with others because someone can tell us bad things about someone and due to our schema that stuff is going to come back to us and keep reminding us about that person.

2. How does implicit bias relate to the texts we studied this year?
- Implicit bias relates to the text we studied because we studied how people make judgments/stereotypes about people. For example, In There There we saw how there were a lot of stereotypes/judgments made for Native American people and we saw how there were name-calling and other situations. This year we learned how people just make judgments but never learn what the person is going through they just like to judge or make stereotypes.

Yes, there is a big global issue that is being highlighted in the film Blindspotting. The issue I saw as the audience was that being a police officer you have so much entitlement. For example, in the film showed how a White police officer killed a Black person. In the last scene of the movie, we saw how Collin was rapping and explaining to that police officer how he feels what pain Black people or a person of color has to go through and the police officer can not feel that pain. He states at the end "The only difference between me and you is that I'm not a killer." This statement has so much power in it and emotion because this is what a person of color feels when they lose someone or what pain they have to go through due to the society we are in. What the audience learns from this movie is the pain a person of color goes through and how they feel. Well, three big techniques I will point out our the red and blue colors and the camera angles or close up and far away, and music. The red and blue lights show the police car sirens. We witness how important people may have an impact on our sense of self-worth and how, despite all the odds, it is still possible to stand up for ourselves and for who we are. This part of the scene is important because" black ram" Iago calls Othello a "ram" and a "Barbary horse" a few lines later, using contemporary comparisons between Africans and animals. At this point, the conflict being shown is how Iago is refer Othello to animals since he is a Black man since Othello and Desdemona are an interracial couple and people back then were really against these types of couples and marriages. The author's use of verbal irony and foreshadowing serves a very shocking or bitter tone. The imagery in phrases such as "heart burst", lost half of your soul" and "Black Ram" reveals how the audience can picture all of these things happening and picture all those animals that Iago refers to Othello. The use of diction such as the devil, robbed, black ram, shame, and lost shows the negative tone and diction. Since this quote and many other quotes refer to Othello as many animals which shows racism and how back then black men were sexually charged and white men had to protect women from black men. This shows how white men have been threatened by black men and this is why the men have to protect the women because back then black men are falsely accused of things. For example, Emmett Till was killed because he whistled and the white woman said he whistled to her but in reality, he just had a very loving and happy personality and he was only 14 years old. The writer reveals a very negative tone through the words like black ram since it shows the comparison of Africans to animals and this shows a lot of racism. Overall, the audience might feel very angry since there is a lot of racism shown in the passage and Othello is called a "Moor". This part of the passage uses repetition of words like lost and reputation. This quote is said by Cassio. The confit that is shown in this quote is that we know Cassio as the villain in the play but something happened to his reputation. With this quote, we can see how much Cassio cares about his reputation. Cassio relied on reputation to carry out his duties, but after being demoted, his conduct altered and he started to fear Othello. "I have lost the immortal part of myself, and what is left is bestial," he claimed. After being demoted, his reputation was damaged, and Othello was unimpressed and no longer able to regard him as a friend. Iago was able to persuade Othello that he had affairs with Desdemona and was cheating on him because of his inebriation. As Othello threatened Casino, saying, "I will make thee an example," Casino was made aware that his friend Othello no longer trusted him. He would try to talk things out with Othello, but Iogo would always barge in and ruin everything. Iago used Cassio's reputation as a springboard for carrying out all of his objectives. The overall tone, mood, and diction is very anxious and nerve racking since Cassio is worried about his repution being spolied. The imagery used in this scene shows how the lustful nature of women is implied by their "appetites," and it suggests that despite being married, Othello is unable to control this nature and prevent adultery: they may be married, but this does not stop her "lustful nature."Changed perspectives on love where before Othello saw Desdemona as an equal and valued her as a complex human being, Iago has persuaded him that women are merely objects of lust: which matches Iago's beliefs that the poison is taking effect. Act 1's loss of the previous "noble moor" is symbolized by the degradation of Othello's lovely speech. Another quote I wanted to use was "Your napkin is too small" because it shows how Othello pushes Desdemona's comfort away. The handkerchief was the first present Othello presented to Desdemona, and it used to represent their love. But when it was discovered in possession of another man, this too was perverted and became a representation of Desdemona's adultery. The 
irony I saw was how the napkin is too tiny to ease his bodily discomfort, but it is readily big enough to make him jealous to the point of insanity. The handkerchief is used as a representation of Othello's resentment and the damage Iago has wrought. The result of the play might have been very different if he had accepted the kind offer. This shows how Othello was in pain but overall he was trying to ease off Desdemona so her comfort went away. She knows one thing for certain in a moment of enormous uncertainty: she adores Othello without conditions. She still has Othello in her heart despite his outbursts. The foreshadowing was how Desdemona embraces the grim reality that her life might be ending soon after realizing for the first time that it might. She will still love Othello despite this, though. Her love is more powerful than both death and the hatred he displays. Another quote I want to use is "They are all but stomachs, and we all but food; they eat us hungrily, and when they are full, they belch us". This shows how Emilla thinks about guys on how they treat love. The imagery used in this quote how there is more food-related imagery. This implies that men may get rid of women simply, taking them in before doing so when they get bored. While Iago thinks that women are the objects of lust, it is clear that monsters like Iago are the actual ones. The only character that embodies genuine honesty is Emilia, who is the font of all knowledge. She is very aware of how males perceive women and abhors it. She is aware, though, that there is little she can do about her predicament. When Iago forbids Emilie from speaking, she defies his order to keep quiet. Throughout the entire play, Emilia is the voice of truth; she defends Desdemona and calls her husband's lies to light. Although Emilia's bravery might endanger her life, it helps to successfully expose Iago and his schemes. Emilia refuses to follow her husband when she should be expected to ("I charge you get you home") since the truth is what matters most. She believes it is her responsibility to expose Iago because he must face consequences. The word "bound" has powerful overtones, implying that she MUST talk. The use of an insistent tone in Emilia's words helps to emphasize its significance—without it, Iago might never have been found. Another quote that should out to me was "Yet she must die, else she'll betray more men." Othello declares that Desdemona must die in order to spare other men from suffering the same fate since he genuinely believes that she is a liar. He has every right to think that he is carrying out justice and that it is his duty to see that Desdemona is put to death. We get a sight of the "old Othello" with this speech, as Othello's flair returns. This offers a stark contrast to the character he has developed as a result of Iago's schemes. "I bleed, sir, but not killed". Othello stabs Iago, but he survives.
He teases Othello by saying that despite his military training, he is unable to kill Iago. Remember that this was Othello's final military action. This is basically a mocking tone. Othello should be able to murder Iago, but he is unable to do it. This demonstrates the impact of Iago's falsehoods because it shows how destroyed Othello is and how he cannot even murder Iago. This shows how you can trust anyone over who you love and at the end you get to realize the person who is killed like Desdemona was faithful to Othello but Othello did not believe her.
