The items in my Literal group include things that are relating to one another and are explicitly stated, while the items in my hinting group require knowledge outside of the sentence. The items in the hinting group can be used to relate to other items, but they can also be used just to reference something beyond the context of the sentence.
For example.
Similar:
Literal (Simile): Her smile was as bright as the sun.
Hinting (Allusion): Her smile was as bright as the cause of Icarus' demise.
Different:
Literal (Personification): The wind roared.
Hinting (Idiom): He was in the wind.
