I am thrilled about starting my master's degree in special education. I studied early childhood at Monroe College in the Bronx where I live and work. 
During my student teaching, I had the opportunity to work in public and charter schools. I met wonderful educators and students that confirmed my decision to become a teacher. I have been teaching for three years and I can honestly say it only gets better. My focus so far has been early childhood education. Eventually, when I feel prepared I would like the challenge of working with adolescents.
My hopes for this semester are high. I am interested in learning several strategies and techniques to help my students succeed and to help me continue my journey as a teacher. 
My educational philosophy is basically the following words: "Maslow before Bloom." These two well-known psychologists made me aware of the several factors one has to consider before thinking a student is unable to learn. I truly believe a child needs to feel safe before they can thrive academically. 
Schooling is more than an objective to achieve; its purpose is to educate but to go beyond learning facts. It is helping a student discover new worlds and open new doors to help cultivate a love for learning.
