He changed the name to "Amazon Inc" because "cadabra" sounded similar to "cadaver". Around a year later after its founding, the Amazon website was officially published and labelled as an online bookseller delivering to all 50 states and 45 countries from that same garage space.


Like many beginning companies, Amazon saw losses until around October 1st to December 31st in 1996. Within that time the revenue increased from $4.2 million to %8.5 million while seeing a $100,000$ decrease in losses from each quarter (Wilhelm, 2019).


After extending beyond books in 1998 Amazon started to see more profit and 2003 became Amazon's first profitable year as net profits grew from $3 million in the last quarter of 2002 to $73 million in the last quarter in 2003.


From here Amazon has skyrocketed in value and has earned its place in the fortune 500.
