The Blackfoot People used to live in the southern part of Canada. About 30 miles north of the Country's border with the United States. It's relative location was just about 15 45 miles straight South of the small town of Del Bonita. The exact location of where these tribes were is 49.013495, -112.791746. There were originally about three tribes in this general location. Each tribe had around 5000 people at each tribe. Each of these tribes had their own government and they got to elect their own officials.

This is an image of where the current blackfoot confederacy is located. It is located through to countries and holds almost 20,000 people today. The three most important places to the Blackfeet tribe are the Blackfeet Confederacy, Lake Ontario and the reservation in Montana.

The Blackfoot religion was very complex. Their main god was the sun, but they also believed in a supernatural being named Napi, which means Old Man. The Blackfoot tribe also had complicated beliefs about supernatural powers in connection with nature. Blackfoot women wore long deerskin dresses. Men wore buckskin tunics and breechcloths with leggings. Blackfoot dresses and war shirts were fringed and often decorated with porcupine quills, beads, and elk teeth. Both Blackfeet women and men wore moccasins on their feet and buffalo-hide robes in cold weather.

These are the buffalo hide robes they wore. They were worn by the men and woman of the Blackfeet Tribe.

The Blackfoot People live in the Northern Plains. Some of the people that are located within this region are indeed the Blackfoot people. Also there were the Crow tribe and also the Assiniboine tribe. They typically have a darker colored skin, with rounder noses and longer black or grey hair. The government of the Blackfoot people is each of them have their own government and are able to choose their own leader. The geography of this general area is pretty rock considering that the Rock Mountains are located in this region. Their religion is mostly based on that their god is the Sun. Their economy is based on Buffalo since that was mostly what they liked to hunt and trade. Their main language can be referred to as Niitsipussin. Which I believe is more of the Canadian tribes. One of their many customs is the Sun dance which is done by many of their tribes. Another Rule is before you could get married the man must prove that he is a great warrior.

The image below is a painted picture of the great Blackfoot Chief Crowfoot. He was the Chief that signed the peace treaty with the Canadian government.

The Blackfoot People seemed to have interacted with their environment quite frequently. This is no surprise because they believed that many parts of their environment were Gods. So that means that they worshiped these many different things such as animals and plants. The way that their environment affected them was that their environment after they would worship it and other things like that , it would send a message or story to them through a dream. Some of there clothing that they had were typically made out of Buffalo hide which would keep you warm and I think was sort of cool looking. Their food source also came from the Buffalo. Their housing was even made out of Buffalo hide , which means that they must have had tepees, which would make sense , since they could easily move them to capture the Buffalo for food and many other things. The Tepees would have stick beams making a cone shape, and they would be tided at the top to one another. Then for the siding they would be wrapped with Buffalo hide.


This is a picture of one of the Blackfoot People Riding a horse.  These types of people were called Buffalo runners , because there was a special way that these people learned to hunt Buffalo on horseback.

The Blackfoot People moved from place to place quite frequently. Which means that they were nomadic herders or hunters. The reason for all of their moving is that they would always follow the Buffalo. Once the Europeans finally came over they started to bring horses and the Blackfoot People used these to their advantage. They would use them for moving and even hunting the Buffalo themselves.

This little girl a above is located on a Blackfoot People Indian Reservation located in Montana. This reservation is just about 3,000 sq. miles, which is just about half the size of a national park, but bigger than the state Delaware

Some of the holy sites that were located on their land or general area of land that they roamed was medicine lodge , the spiritual portal , and the sweat lodge. They would like to put plants or other sorts of things inside of these special sites. The tribes would only give the location of these special place orally through tradition so that only the people of the culture or tribe would know where these buildings or portals were located. So there is not exact location or relative location.

The picture below is a drawn picture of the Blackfoot people getting ready to do their Sun dance inside of the Sun lodge. You can see because there is only one person that is up and many other people are sitting down watching him and that is typically how they did it.

Now days they live on a reservation in Montana.Their exact location is 48.741427, -112.929218. There relative location is Directly East of the Glacier national park in Montana. They are also east of the Rocky Mountains just a little bit at this reservation. The reservation its self is about 3000 square miles as the area. Which is really big in my opinion. They have around 17,321 members located on this reservation. This is one of the 10 largest reservations in the United States of America.

The picture below is the many people having fun on the reservation. They look sort of like us , but almost all them have black hair like this.

They stopped moving during the 1950's. They pretty much stayed in the same general location , but now they are on a Indian reservation. So that means that they are still alive today , just not the same way they lived 200 years ago. Some of the goods that they exchanged with other tribes was Buffalo hide because that was just about everything that they did. The Europeans must have traded some Buffalo for horses , because I don't believe that they just would have gave them free horses.

This is a picture of a Blackfoot person much before the Europeans came with horses. As you can see that it was much harder this way.
