Emmett Till was visiting relatives in Money, Mississippi, in 1955 when the fourteen-year-old was accused of whistling at Carolyn Bryant, a white woman who was a cashier at a grocery store. Four days later, Bryant's husband Roy and his half-brother J.W. Milam kidnapped Till, beat him and shot him in the head.
In the novel Toni Morrison, "The boys dead. His mama's screaming. Won't let them bury him. That ought to be enough colored blood on the streets. You want to spill blood , spill the crackers' blood that bashed his face in" (Morrison 81).

The Seven Days are a society of seven black men who, whenever a black man, woman, or child is murdered by a white person, reciprocate the murder by taking the life of a white person, killing him or her in a similar manner.
In the novel, Guitar’s involvement with the Seven Days is foreshadowed during his heated participation in the discussions about racism at Tommy’s Barbershop which connects to my argument because the seven days was created because of the racism.

The discovery of Milkman's Identity

Throughout the course of the novel, Milkman searches for himself and his identity. In the beginning of the novel it presents the quote, "The fathers may soar and the children may know their names"(Morrison Intro). Throughout the first few chapters, we have seen Milkman’s struggle with his own name and his curiosity surrounding his background. He wrestles with the expectations of the black community and with the emptiness that haunts his interior self. Milkman changes from a selfish man, willing to do almost anything to gain independence from his family, into a deeply moral, and selfless man.

In the years before the Civil War, Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York, is kidnapped beaten, and sold into slavery in the South by white men. Solomon was given another identity that he was forced to go by even though he had papers proving him a free man. For him being a black men in general, they considered him as some type of runaway slave from georgia. This connects to my argument because it shows how people cannot be free if they are being enslaved by their racial identity.

The 16 Street Baptist Church bombing was an act of white supremacist which occurred at their African American 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sunday, September 15, 1963, when four members of the Ku Klux Klan planted at least 15 sticks of dynamite attached to a timing device beneath the steps where the four African American girls were.
In the novel, Guitar can't get the horrific incident out of his mind so it causes him to want to get revenge because he is in the Seven days society.
This connects to my argument because without the hatred that white people had, based off one's race, the fire in birmingham wouldn't have occured and four little innocent girls wouldn't have lost their lives.
