Americans have been wanting to settle in Texas because of the rich soil and plains for the animals to graze in. Once Mexico had won its independence from Spain, many more Americans were able to settle in Texas. Threats of Texas breaking away from Mexico began in 1833, when Stephen Austin had gone to Mexico with a document allowing Texas to be self-governed. This document had stated if it was not approved then Austin would support Texas breaking away. Antonio López de Santa Anna saw this as a rebellion and jailed Austin. In 1835, Mexican troops marched to Texas to take their cannon, but failed to do so. Texans had pushed the Mexican troops out, and this was known as the Alamo. Recently, on March 1-2 1836, the Texans was declaring independence because they wanted to become more independent from Mexico. But on the 13th day of the battle the Texans ran out of ammo and only five Texans were left an the Battle of Alamo was over. Recently the tejanos, Americans, and African Americans also had ambushed Santa Anna's fort and yelled "Remember the Alamo" "Remember Goliad" as they attacked and killed more then half of the Mexican army. Santa Anna was forced to sign a treaty, and the Battle of San Jacinto allowed Texas to be independent. In 1836, Texas is now independent from Mexico and is known as the Lone Star Republic. I decided send out troops to try to put the rebellion out, but it all ended in a battle of which we lost. The Tejanos  never wanted to separate until the Americans came into our lands and disobeyed our laws. But Mexico and Spain had said it was still theirs. I am glad I was able to help the Tejanos win their independence against Mexico in the Battle of San Jacinto.
