Must be 18 or older
Must be a permanent resident of the United States for 5 years ( if married to a citizen, only 3 years
Must be willing to swear your loyalty to the U.S.
You will be interviewed to test your morals
You have to be able to read, write, and speak simple english
You will be tested on your knowledge of U.S. government history

Knowing what the nation values and also what duties and responsibilities you will have as a citizen are also good to know because you may get asked a question about what to do in different scenarios.

Knowing your rights and responsibilities are key when trying to be a good citizen. Rights are things we have automatic permission for, such as the right to speak freely and the right to vote, things like that. Responsibilities are things that we should do, especially if it's the right thing to do. We are responsible for the government we choose, being informed to make a decision toward our government, and we are responsible for respecting other citizens.

As citizens, there are certain duties we have such as obeying laws. Following laws help keep order in the country and protect everyone's safety, health, and property at times. Paying taxes on time helps provide the government with funding that they need to keep the country functioning. When most men are 18 years of age, they are required to sign up for the ARMY in case of needed drafts for wars and other events to defend our nation. Every adult in America will eventually serve in jury duty, which is the group of people in court who listen and analyze cases and decide if a person is guilty or not. Children are required to go to school until the age of 16, so don't sweat it, even kids have duties as U.S. citizens.

We have access to so many tools that can help expand our knowledge and really help evolve the world. There are also so many different cultures and traditions to learn and participate in.
