Eclectic design is a style that fits the saying, "No two are alike". The eclectic style started with pioneers who enjoyed the idea that they were not limited to one style. The eclectic style always had a mixture of textures and colors but in the end they all become cohesive and blend well together. Most walls are painted one color, typically white, and splashes of colors come from sofas and other accents incorporated into the space. The trick with colors, lines, and shapes, they all have to have a unified look, but all different kinds can be used. Anything with patterns or a design is typically used for any sorts of fabric. When it comes to decor it is has a vintage and modern feel, which could more often than not be taken as clutter. Items with sentimental value or even handmade items are very popular, even abstract art and sculptures can be used. When it comes to the architectural details, the space can any type, because if there were any limitations it would go against the be bold, take risk objective of eclectic design.

Source:
https://www.rugknots.com/blogs/home-inspiration-ideas-for-decor/6-beautiful-elements-eclectic-interior-design
https://www.elledecor.com/design-decorate/interior-designers/how-to/a8655/eclectic-style/

This style of design is bright, fresh, and relaxing. It's the perfect style for a vacation home in Cape Cod.

Most colors you will see in this design are lots of sandy colors, beige, browns, any color of blue from the lightest being a pale aqua or dark navy, also greens play apart in the color scheme.

There are a lot of natural elements like drift wood, sand, starfish, seashells.

Stripped rugs/pillows/sofas can make really cool accents pieces in the house. Usually there will be one bigger item that is stripped so it is not so overwhelming.

A lot of the fabric will be light and airy.

There are many ways to get creative with the décor. You can take old maps and frame it in a sandy color frame or distressed frame. Starfish, bottles, rope, ships, lanterns, and coral are fun ways to display décor either on bookshelves, tables or hanging on the wall.

There are lots of crown molding to add character to the house. Shiplap painted white adds a warm feeling to the house as well as wooden beams. A really cool feature in some designs would be a bench for a breakfast nook.

Source:
https://www.impressiveinteriordesign.com/nautical-interior-design-style-decoration-ideas/

Mediterranean design
When you look at a mediterranean design somethings you will notice are; the decadent archways, tiled floors, and lightly textured plaster walls. You will mostly likely see this style of design in the countries that border the Mediterranean Sea. This design uses a color palette that resembles colors from the sea such as, bright blues, whites, yellows, terra-cotta, and even lavender. When looking for furnishings you will notice the short turned legs trimmed with heavy hardware. Fabrics will include velvets, linens, and textured fabrics. You will also notice greens plants to the help bring the outside in.

Source:
"Interior Design" written by Stephanie A. It’s a beautiful style which requires dedication to decorate with.

During the 19th century, interior design was very much about neoclassicism.

Art nouveau interior decorating emerged in London and Paris and aimed to incorporate art and design into everyday living. Even functional objects were beautified and turned into works of art. Different art styles influenced art nouveau. From Celtic art to Japonism, art nouveau could be applied to many artistic aspects including architecture, decoration and fine art as well as jewelry, glassware, and illustrations. Art nouveau furniture, as well as art nouveau postures, were popular forms of interior decoration.

Much of art nouveau design inspiration was taken from nature, with stylized flowers, spider webs and feathers heavily featured on wallpapers and furnishings. Styles were extravagant and decadent with iridescent glass and semi-precious gems making an appearance. Both elongated curves and linear shapes were a major part of the nouveau art. Consistency is key, as traditional design seeks to create a calm orderly space.

Color palettes are usually neutral and include formal fabric textures and patterns such as simple florals, solids, stripes, and moires.

Antiques and both light and dark woods are used.

Symmetry is used in furniture pairings and accessories.

Furnishings are classic and might feel outdated. Nothing is a surprise. Pieces match and are consistent.

Furniture and accessories are place in pairs and centered in the room. There is nothing out of place or of a different style. Everything has the look that it goes together.

https://www.thespruce.com/decorating-in-the-traditional-style-1977669

The Arts and Crafts design style is inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement. The movement began in the 1850s in Britain. The style didn’t become popular until around the 1880s in Europe and until 1910 in America. The Arts and Crafts Movement began as a challenge against the Industrial Revolution and the Victorian Age. Fine art, architecture, design, and decorative arts were affected during this time. Reformers, such as William Morris, did not agree with mass produced products and wanted to continue to capture the spirit of handmade goods. The style also went against the cluttered taste of the Victorian period. The Arts and Crafts Style is connected to both Mission Style and Craftsman Style.

Furniture and decor are made of dark wood and finished with stains. The hardwares are often wooden or simple metal shapes.

Dominant colors for the Arts and Crafts Style include natural earth colors ranging from mid to dark tones, pale stone colors, and eggplant. Color schemes can be either analogous or complimentary.

Rectilinear shapes are popular in the Arts and Crafts style. Straight, vertical lines and elongated forms are represented in this style.

Upholstered pieces use leather or natural colored cloth. Fabrics used can have intricate patterns with very neutral colors.

Decor in this style is very minimal. Natural details and craft of pieces are important. Wallpaper and stained glass are popular in this style. Patterned area rugs are also common.

The architecture of the Arts and Crafts Style is most commonly a bungalow style home. This includes low pitched roofs, entry directly into living room, large front porch, open floor plan, and minimal hallways.

Sources:

https://study.com/academy/lesson/arts-and-crafts-movement-furniture.html

https://artsandcraftshomes.com/interiors/interior-color-palettes-arts-crafts-homes

https://www.hgtv.com/design/home-styles/arts-and-crafts-architecture

http://www.antiquehomestyle.com/styles/bungalow.htm

This looks just like the craftsman interiors I've seen around Wash Park. It is so much wood of the same color which to me is just begging for some variety. In interior design speak, this design style could be more well-balanced with colored, textured and patterned wallcoverings. Sorry Arts and Crafts home lovers!
