Puritans came to the Americas in the 1500's and they are originally from England. There were a group of separatists who were led by William Bradford. Puritans have the name they do because they sought to purify the church of England from its Catholic practices. When the puritans landed in the Americas in November of 1620, it was hard to find food and warm shelter due to the cold weather since it was winter season.

Puritans believed that God expected them to live by the scriptures, to reform the Angelic Church. They thought it would be a good example for those who were still Catholic to realize their sins and change their beliefs. Within one year of the puritans settling in the Massachusetts bay colony, a minister by the name of Roger Williams began causing problems for the puritans. He believed that any of the puritans who still had any association with the angelic church would be "damned " in God's eyes. In 1634, a women named Anne Hutchinson was put on trial by the ministers of the church and charged her for heresy for giving her opinions on the church and puritans beliefs.
