The West Show Choir has been working hard to learn A LOT of music for this new concert season. We have our Spring Concert to prepare for, the district-wide Choralrama performance at the end of the year, and we just completed the Jr. County Chorus auditions last week (with an amazing 15 Show Choir members being selected for the group!). We also have a special project up our sleeves for our friend Makayla Becker...stay tuned!

My 6th graders have been hard at work with early preparations for the Spring Concert - I'm challenging them with more music, more difficult harmonies, and even adding in some body percussion! Attendance at lessons continues to be phenomenal, which makes a HUGE difference in the amount of work we can get done on our music in full-class rehearsals. We are continuing to work on both our rhythm and sight-reading curricula, as well, and will be incorporating . a few more skill check-ins before the end of the school year.

We have made a great start to learning our spring concert music in Concert Choir, while also spending time moving forward in our rhythm and sight-reading curriculums. Lessons have made a huge impact on our ability to move quickly in full-class rehearsals, and we will shortly be getting down to the nit-picky details that make the music truly come to life.

Don't forget: our Spring Concert is on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:30PM!

As the end of T2 draws near, it is important for students to make sure they have accounted for all of their lesson grades! They get reminded each day at the beginning of class, and know that they can check Infinite Campus to see their current grades, including how many lessons the need to make up. The lesson cycle starting on Friday, February 14 will be a make-up lesson cycle: if students have a zero in the gradebook, they can make up that grade by attending Lesson #5. Any lesson grades not made up by attending a make-up lesson or completing SmartMusic exercises by February 21 will remain as a 0/10 in the gradebook.

I can't wait to get started with this new group of select 6th grade singers! We have a large group this year, so our sound will be strong, and I can tell that these students are raring to get singing. Now that I've seen each of my 6th graders for a full cycle of Chorus class, it's time to get to work on preparing our music for the Winter Concert. This group will be learning two extra pieces, and will have the honor of performing as the opening act of our concert on November 21.
