In Chile thousands of women are protesting against the sexual assault and mistreatment. Women in Chile are standing up to what they believe in and they won't stop until they get the justice they deserve. As stated in the chapter, "People riot in response to what they see as social injustice, as if to say "We won't take it anymore!" Unlike the action of a mob, a riot usually has no clear goal, except perhaps to express dissatisfaction. The cause of most riots is some long-standing anger or grievance." (Macionis, pg. 529). All women from Chile want the respect they need and deserve not only for themselves and for their future but as well for their own children's future.

During this year of 2019, scrunchies made a comeback and now everyone wears them. This image simply shows how scrunchies have made a successful comeback and how every girl wears them in a daily basis. Macionis states, "Because fashion reflects basic cultural values like individuality and sexual attractiveness, they tend to stay around for a while. Therefore, a fashion - but rarely a fad- becomes a more lasting part of popular culture." (Macionis, pg. 530). Just like any other fashion trend, or fad at a certain point they tend to fade away but they will always come back and become popular just like very firs day it was invented.

This is something we see in our every day. I chose this imagine because it shows how this main idea is everywhere around the world. A civilization can be easily destroyed depending on how the situation is handled but it can also be an advantage. As stated in the chapter, "The face-to-face communication of the village was eventually replaced by the impersonal mass media: newspapers, radio, television, and the computer-based social media that link people throughout the world." (Macionis, pg. 540). Structural- functional also benefits large organizations such as education that puts many individuals in school as well as the justice system.

One of the many consequences that can happen due to this can be that workers can start to rise up in action by revolting and it can cause major social change. Not only can it cause social change but it also affects the lives of many citizens. Macionis explains, "Capitalism supports science not just as the key to greater productivity but also as an ideology that justifies the statues quo. Modern societies encourage people to view human well-being as a technical puzzle to be solved by engineers and other experts rather than through the pursuit of social justice." (Macionis, pg. 541).

https://youtu.be/hJxmBS_JmxM
This video shows how individuals interact with one another which creates symbolic worlds and later creates their behaviors. I chose this video because it shows how human interactions have changed over time and how peoples behavior is different today than it was in the past. It also shows how social interaction is constantly changing as well as society. The chapter states, "Our society urges people to be true to themselves, but when social surroundings change so rapidly, how can people develop the self to which they should be true? This problem lies at the root of the identity crisis so widespread in industrial societies today." (Macionis, pg. 543).

This cartoon is letting us know that people want to keep living in a world where they can live postmodern which basically means that individuals stay in a certain era. As well as, denying and not wanting to except that what has been proven today in the modern world is real. This connects to what Macionis states in the chapter, "The defining trait of the modern era was a scientific outlook and a confident belief that technology would make life better. But postmodern critics argue that science has failed to solve many old problems (such as poor health) and has even created new problems ( such as pollution and global warning). Postmodernist thinkers discredit science, claiming that it implies a singular truth." (Macionis, pg. 546).

Many theorists claim that the rich nations should be helping poor countries grow economically. This meme gives us an idea that the government and its system doesn't want to help out the poor societies due to the global domination by rich capitalists. The reality is that even today's poor societies don't have the ability to grow even if they wanted to. Macionis states, "Dependency theory asserts that rich nations achieved their modernization at the expense of poor ones, by taking their valuable natural resources and exploiting their human labor. Even today, the world's poorest countries remain locked in a disadvantageous economic relationship with rich nations, dependent on wealthy countries to buy their raw materials and in return provide them with whatever manufactured products they can afford. According to this view, continuing ties with rich societies will only perpetuate current patterns of global inequality." (Macionis, pg. 547).
