I think this experiment is so good! Being a substitute teacher i see how impressionable these younger kids are. They hear things around them, then they say it at school to another young child not knowing or understanding the weight of what they say. Its so good to see others who helped out and showed the little girl that no matter the skin color both dolls were still beautiful.

If im being honest none of this was shocking to me. Younger kids just like the video said are taught to be friends with everyone. As children grow older they begin to just gravitate towards people who look or act like them. For example i went to a predominantly white elementary school. Of course i have white friends and we all got along but i always felt like i stuck out. In middle school I went to a predominantly black school and i got there feeling like i fit in. I made more friends who looked like me and at the same time i felt the disconnect with my white friends. We hung out less, talked less and one eventually told me that i was spending too much time with the black people. Obviously, that ended our friendship but i felt that same negative attraction from a few more. I got the same heat from my black friends too because they couldnt understand why did things with my white friends.

This was a good video too and its one of the main reasons to incorporate the idea of a classroom being a family. They all wanted to be there for the green kid no matter how different he looked from them. They want to be his friend and help him. They chose to not be mean because the green kid would look different than them.

This video is very eye-opening as you can clearly see the minority group which is the people of color standing far back in the line versus the majority population which is white standing near the front of the line showing they had more privilege. This exercise really shows people how sometimes no matter how hard you work, the standards are just always set against you. If we were to be doing an in-person class, I think this would be a great lesson to just show the diversity of people who we go to school with.

This video really shows how much influence family has on children's point of views. Several children stated thoughts of their family not being okay with interracial relationships wether it be dating or a friendship. This is going to stay with a child in their mind and effect later decisions that they make. I also found it sad that once the children of color become older, they went through hard experiences that changed their mindset into a rather negative one. No child should have to think they are not good enough or could not be friends with another child especially because of their skin color.

This video is a reminder for me as why I want to be a teacher. These students are very pure and just want to see each other being treated fairly. This video all shows that racism is learned... these children only care about how a person treats them and not what the color of their skin is. I hope one day to have a classroom and raise my children to be like one of those children.

I loved these students responses! Everyone was very accepting of a green friend. I believe that children start to bully and pick on people for differences at a young age, and it is sad to see because it can lead to a negative connotation to school and their self. My hope as a teacher is to teach children about acceptance and that different is okay.

Privilege is a special advantage someone has over a specific group or groups of people. This video shows a variety of people in America and it is interesting to see their reactions to where their final stance was. Privilege is something people can take for granted, and this is why it is so important to be kind to one another. You never know what someone is going through or had to go through to get to where they are.

Unfortunately, you will come across people that do not feel this way and it can be extremely confusing for young children to comprehend. Children learn from other people and by who they are surrounded by. This shows that a lot of kids are influenced by people such as their parents or grandparents. There were many different children that were and were not okay with being friends or dating a different race. It seemed to me like it all came down to what the adults they spent their time with would say about the situation. This is something that over time, children may begin to influence the adults and change their point of view on this topic.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the whole world would think like the kids in the video? Green skin? So? We can be friends! It reminded me of a picture I saw a long time ago about 2 Kindergarten friends who wanted to confuse their teacher and agreed to wear the same clothes to school one day. One was a white little boy and the other a black little boy. It just shows that kids do not only not make a difference but they also simply don't see it unless it's pointed out.

My hope is that one day toy manufacturers or children's book authors don't have to announce anymore when a new toy or book is released that it is diverse, because it will be just so normal, nobody will notice. Until then we have to help educate children (and adults) that playing with dolls of any color is perfectly fine and should not be seen as unusual.

This video was absolutely wonderful. Kids have the purest hearts and that is where they speak from. Their honesty is incredible. I think that adults need to take a learning experience away from watching this. As we grow up, we have a tendency to change our attitudes and views towards others. When we speak about privilege I think of being spoiled, self-centered, and somewhat pathetic in a sense. We never stop to think about others who don't have the freedoms we have. We take things for granted like going to dinner and wasting half of our meal, buying clothes because we don't want to do laundry, our education because someone else is paying for it, and we never think twice about it. These things happen daily and consistently and it is heartbreaking to watch this video. To be able to pay it forward is what life should be about. We are extremely fortunate while others live in poverty, who deal with discrimination in all aspects of their everyday lives.

This was my favorite video to watch. This shows you just how innocent children are. Every child in this video was willing to except and help the new green kid. They didn't see him as different. These kids are the reason I want to teach kids of this age because regardless of skin color they all want to be friends. And they knew it wouldn't be nice to pick on him for the way he looks.

Being a substitute teacher, I would have to honestly say this video did not surprise me. For young children in elementary school, they do not see skin color or ethnicity. They are happy just to have friends at school. As children get older you can start to see they begin to divide themselves into groups of kids more like themselves. Children listen to what their elders say, and it ends up having a big influence on them. By the time these kids are in middle and high school they have developed their opinions which is usually the same opinion of their elders.

Listening to most of the questions, it seems more like "Situation" than privilege. Because anybody in life can be privileged through any means. But, going through , dealing, or put in situations. This was an interesting test to show how race with younger children does not matter. After watching this video, I already know that younger children are more acceptable to not seeing color. Versus the older adolescent who begins to see and understand color. But of all, the biggest negative influence is the parents and grandparents. This is the most negative influence on kids today, just because they continue to press their "doctrine" on them. Giving them a reason to learn and have racist tendencies. This is something of the past and should not be passed down to the future generations in that family.

I used to watch these WWYD videos on YouTube all the time because I think they are great experiments to see how others would handle some difficult situations. I really enjoyed watching this experiment because when others stepped in to try and help the situation it made me realize how in the future in my own classroom I will have situations like this and am going to need to know how to handle it. Kids do not understand things like adults do they do not understand diversity and how people being different from them is a good thing. They have to be taught all these things so I will have to be prepared as a teacher to handle these type of situations. This video has an amazing message behind it on how diversity is good thing and how we shouldn't discriminate others because they look different as well as it showed me how to go about handling things like this in my own classroom in the future.

I think if a green kid really did go to their school there would be mixed reactions. On one end I think he would make many friends because when you're that young the way people look does not matter to you. You're just a kid focused on playing and having fun so the way someone looks does not even cross your mind. However, on the other end there is kids who have never seen someone green before and diversity for children can be scary sometimes they just leave kids out who look different because they think if you look completely different that makes you "weird". At the end of the day this was a great video and all the kids in this video responded amazingly, but there just kids a lot of them just don't understand diversity and how being different is great.

I am not surprised at all that the positivity towards interracial friendships went down as kids got older. When you are young your normally just taught to be friends with everybody but as you get older if your parents have an opinion on interracial friendships or relationships they will tell you and normally expect you to feel the same way. There is definitely a lot of mixed opinions in this video. I personally just think if you are going to choose to not be friends or get into a relationship with someone it should not be chose of of race at all.

In this video it showed a visual of what privilege really is. Privilege is defined as an advantage or opportunity that most other people do not have because of wealth and connections with powerful people. In this video it showed those who had the advantage being in the front and the minorities in the back. It was sad seeing the one black lady in the back I could understand how awkward and how much harder she had to work to catch up with those ahead of her. I would like to use this experiment in my class to help my students see how its not easy for everyone.

I think this experiment is important because it is something that happens in everyday life. Sometimes its actually the opposite, as well. I think this also shows how impressionable children are and hearing from an adult and their perspective is important. Although this event is stages, hearing that we all have friends who are different, is important for some kids to see that is okay. Children learn from their environment and who they are around.

I think this video is a good reminder that Privilege isn't always something massive or expensive. Privilege can be something is a basic need for me, but someone else may not have access to. Something like free transportation to school is a privilege, but we take it for granted. There are people who don't get basic needs the way we do and can be considered privilege.

I definitely enjoyed this video experiment; this is our everyday world. Kids are pressured to go above what they like to agree with the caretaker then later in life the child follows the footsteps who taught them. Diversity, and racism are big. I personally believe the child should be able to express their feeling and what they like know matter the color of the skin or the way they look.

After watching, this video and thinking in general from working in a school setting. I see this on a daily basis with racism slurs and so forth. Also, I believe the way people are raised in each individually household makes them believe the values they believe in the children sometimes know it is wrong and they make their own judgement. I believe everyone is equal, and everyone should be friends with any shape, size, or color the person is.

This video is very powerful, it says a lot about privilege. It's sad, but today's world is filled with a lot of privileged entitled people, and it's just not fairly equaled. The questions she asked are far more important and truer than ever, I was thinking back to when I was in school where I tried to fit in, but wasn't privileged enough to be in that group or that "click". I think this video on What is Privilege? is a very good video. I think everyone has their own privileges. There are some people that have to walk places just to get things because they may not have a refrigerator or water. Privileges are when you don't always have control of things.
