My flaws are: I can’t make complicated outlines. I cant come up with great examples for unfamiliar subjects (or even remember them well enough to use them in the speech). I may be time-pressed during planning.

Strengths: I can say a lot about subjects that interest me, and I manage my time well (enough).

i think i can keep my speeches quite concise thanks to the lack of ideas tho!

Active vocab's okay but sometimes I screw up basic pronunciation, and that messes with my tone and confidence.

Time management is REALLY bad tho

Weaknesses: Occasionally, I can speak too quickly, which can cause me to stumble over my words more, and also creates a risk of looping back onto things that I've already spoken about. I am also not good at dissecting my speech into different paragraphs unless notes are allowed. Furthermore, my use of vocabulary in speaking is still limited.

- I don't have much in my active vocabulary reservoir - I understand the words if I read them but can't remember them during writing or speaking. Thus, I usually repeat the same phrase over and over again.

- I am still affected by the "Oriental" rhetorics, that is, to circle round the subject, sometimes without even touching it directly. This means I will belabour one point without developing things further, making my speech rather dull.

- I'm not that well-equipped with social knowledge.

Weakness: My flow state of speaking is very vulnerable, any trip ups causes me to overthink and exit the flow.

• Furthermore, I have a tendency to throw one liners (unsupported thesis statements/signpost thingies) or one-worders (random 10syllable words in the middle of simple words) which reduces my coherence greatly.

He spent too much time on the how good the system is for developing hard workers/good learners, even though it was minimally developed (only had a bit about implications for society at large which could have also been summed up in one or two sentences). Especially placed in the beginning of his speech could make people zone out and miss his more interesting ideas about autonomy and the harms of the negative reinforcement later on. And it was pretty disjunct from his conclusion too, so not a good allocation of time, even superficially.

The autonomy point was also an interesting bit of principled argument which only has power when you properly explain why it is important beyond “doesn’t this feel wrong?” He should have spent more time on that instead.

Pretty nice that he had a quote from a book and an idiom too ig. Extra credits for him.

The development showcases both Greats and Bads of Positive reinforcement; however, it only gives the Bads of Negative reinforcements. It sounds very much like he just liked the Positive Reinforcement and can do away with Negative Reinforcement...

On the practical side, he has great speaking skills; clarity and intonation is beyond reproach. However, slowness and little variation in pitch create a dragging feel that could be better ameliorated with speed or enthusiasm.

Moreover, the conclusion seems vague-ish. Not a clear direction to "move on". Not even suggestions. Perhaps it would take away from the vibes but I think it would benefit him to have an extra idea about a good alternative.

• It was a well-structured speech with clear signposts and cohesive devices which made it easy to follow their ideas.

• There were some "từ ngữ chuyên ngành" such as postive and negative reinforcement and a plethora of C1C2 vocabulary/idioms (disallowance, to a hammer everything is a nail,...)

• Although the ideas were not groundbreaking, they were pretty solid arguments for the topic.

2. Uhmmm

• Sometimes they included too many synonyms in a phrase, making the sentence contrived. Having no experience with the NEC, I don't know if that is what examiners want when they are grading your Lexico, but I think having "Temporary" and "Non-permanent" right next to each other is a big no.

• Some of the ideas were not really thoroughly explained or mechanised with multiple layers of reasons. Mostly he just gave one-liners.

• He paces his speech well; it doesn't sound rushed and is within the time limit.

• He gives specific examples to support his points.

• He uses advanced and formal vocabulary.

Flaws:

• I couldn't understand what point he was defending (might just be me)

  • He's defending positive reinforcement, but he's saying it "instills upon impressionable and less than perfect adolescents [...]"

  • The example he gives isn't really related (Construction workers aren't really in any educational institute)

• Whoa, overreliance on the system leads to crime in society.

That said, I’m not exactly sure the personal example was particularly relevant (seeing that the consequences of getting bad grades is not exactly the same as the punishments meant to reinforce good behaviour).

This is a very polished version actually because I had some more notes on my old notes after the lesson.

I honestly I'm not sure if I can do this impromptu but I will strive for this standard.

I've found out that I get more anxious speaking at home, even if I'm alone, so I pause a lot to organize my thoughts and take breaths (also happened with my previous speech).

This took 5+ tries because I kept tripping over my words for no reason while reading the prompt, and I'm 20 seconds over time.
