For example Josef's story took place in Berlin, Germany-1938.While Isabel was in Havana,Cube-1994. Finally Mahmoud was in Aleppo,Syria-2015. They all have the same kinda of event going on how they are not welcome in their own country. I think the author wanted to show that this is a recurring event and needs to be fixed. Showing how humanity is very messed up. I completely agree with everything that you said. I really liked what you said about the author trying to give a message about our mistakes in the past and how it still affects us. I also think the author may have added 3 stories to inform the reader on history today and in the past. By giving a historical fiction twist to each of the stories it may appeal to younger reader. I agree with you that the book is an emotional roller coster. The part where I almost started crying was when Josef died in the concentration camp.At the same time very happy for Isabel that she made it to America safety. The coolest part was at the end of the novel where she went to go stay at Josef's little sisters house. I also learned in more detail about what was really going beside the sense in each situation snd affected me more because I was not reading it out of a text book.
