All 3 story are connected in some why but added in throughout history. For example Josef's story took place in Berlin, Germany-1938.While Isabel was in Havana,Cube-1994. Finally Mahmoud was in Aleppo,Syria-2015. They all have the same kinda of event going on how they are not welcome in their own country. I think the author wanted to show that this is a recurring event and needs to be fixed. Showing how humanity is very messed up. By adding the 3 story's you the reader can see that this has been going on for almost 90 years.

To add to what you guys saying for my tier 1 question.I think that they are all related and connected on way or another and going along with humanities mistakes I feel like the author was trying to give a message about not making the same mistake and still remembering the old ones because anything can happen to anyone. The three different stories also depict a closer look into what it was far each separate time period had a phone but none of the other stories did. Also the outcome of how they were mostly all related.

I can see that you and I have similar responses. I completely agree with everything that you said. I really liked what you said about the author trying to give a message about our mistakes in the past and how it still affects us. I also think the author may have added 3 stories to inform the reader on history today and in the past. By giving a historical fiction twist to each of the stories it may appeal to younger reader. This makes the message clearer for a younger audience.

But what if the author wanted to give the message that this may happen again in the future because this event is currently happening in the world.

I don't think that was the main idea that the author wanted to get across because he has a younger audience. Due to this he doesn't want to scare them. But for his adult audience this maybe a possibly to let them know they need to go do something to prevent this from happening again or stop the current situation.

Very true when Ivan died that was very emotional. The book definitely covers more adult topics. I agree with you that the book is an emotional roller coster. The part where I almost started crying was when Josef died in the concentration camp.At the same time very happy for Isabel that she made it to America safety. The coolest part was at the end of the novel where she went to go stay at Josef's little sisters house. This shows how the stories are all connected in some why shape and form.

True I didn't think about that but it is extremely to have a certain target for an audience so this could be taken different ways through others perspectives. I don't think kids would be scared or be afraid of the events but be more of an emotional roller coster. For example when Ivan died that was emotional for the characters and the readers from my perspective.

Yeah same I liked how the author connected the stories. But going back to the idea of the author on why the author included the 3 stories. I had the idea that the author did that to show the different outcomes of the stories and how some might not end in a happy ending for example Josef died at the end of his story and Isabel made it safely to America and she was able to live a happy and healthy life in total. Also the progression of the changes of the same situation throughout history kinda going back to what you said in your first response.

This can relate to how these even tho time is passing and technology is advancing the amount of cruelty in the world is still the same. That may outtake on the situation. I want to ask you what was your opinion on the book and what did you get from it? (connects to Katie's 6th Response)

I also learned in more detail about what was really going beside the sense in each situation snd affected me more because I was not reading it out of a text book. Giving it a more emotional affected on me beach it is historical fiction and even tho they are not real people did still happened to people.
