The topic I selected is anti-DEI in higher education, a pressing and relevant issue that is reshaping the current landscape of higher education. Anti-DEI is legislation that aims to eliminate or restrict diversity, equity, and inclusion programs, offices, and initiatives on college campuses. New anti-DEI laws are being implemented, aiming to eliminate practices like diversity training, diversity statements, identity-based hiring practices, and certain academic material on race, gender, and social justice, as it is believed these initiatives favor some groups over others (Dutton, 2025). As I prepare for a career in student affairs, where my primary responsibility will be working directly with students, this topic holds significant weight for my professional practice. I am deeply rooted in a commitment to caring for and supporting the students I serve, which makes it essential for me to explore the complexities of how anti-DEI initiatives may influence my role. Although this guide is intended primarily for student affairs professionals, such as academic advisors, counselors, residence life staff, etc. It is also relevant for higher education practitioners and administrative leadership, as understanding the implications of anti-DEI policies is critical to navigating our shared responsibility of fostering inclusive and supportive educational environments.
