Lastly, a risk management that has been created could be used as reference for future planning or preparation for future events as it could ensure the success of the event.

Risk Management is of the utmost importance for any event as your public expects to be able to relish in the different and exciting atmosphere that is provided at the event. The atmosphere that is provided cannot be accepted or enjoyed by anyone if they do not feel safe and secure. All the staff and members involved in the event planning and implementation process needs to identify all the potential hazards during the planning of, and on site at the event. It is their duty to implement solutions to rectify any accidents or incidents that could occur. An individual Hazard Assessment sheet or a Hazard Summary Sheet will help implement such solutions thoroughly. It is crucial that you are well prepared so that everyone can avoid a mass panic when something goes wrong and follow the already set protocols to rectify a problem smoothly.

Risk management is an important part of project management which if done efficiently leads to the success of the project. However, there are some benefits the event will get if it has plans on how to manage the event. Firstly, it helps to avoid any big disaster. For example, Staff turnover or lack of staff: if only one project leader is responsible for the project, or if not sufficient knowledge is spread in the project, if only one person is responsible for administration and that person disappears. Finally, risk management is the only way for the organizing team to ensure nothing goes wrong. Hence, people will feel secure and safe in attending any event.

The success of your event is measured in many ways and safety is one of them. As part of any good planning process hazards should be identified and risks assessed and controlled to minimise the potential for injury or harm. Events vary in size, nature and type, but all events require assessment, control and monitoring of risks. While most of us understand this, we can find it difficult to apply to a working event document, such as Risk Registers or Risk Control Plans. Remember to start with something simple and build on it. It will become an invaluable tool that you can use to assess event safety – from the planning phase right through to the overall evaluation of the event.
