Othandowayo is beginning to explore and develop her awareness of her body. She can point to and identify various parts, including her eyes, nose, mouth, hair, head, hands and feet. She enjoys joining in songs and games that involve pointing to body parts, which helps strengthen her understanding. She is also starting to develop coordination and control over her movements, moving confidently during activities such as crawling through tunnels, climbing, hopping and running around obstacles. These experiences are helping her build balance, spatial awareness and confidence in using her body. Well done!

Othandowayo can pick up small objects using a pincer grip and is beginning to explore threading activities with focus and care, demonstrating her developing hand–eye coordination. She enjoys sensory play, particularly with playdough, where she confidently pinches, pokes and breaks pieces apart. She also enjoys using playdough cutters, showing her ability to manipulate materials effectively. Right-hand dominant, she is beginning to hold crayons correctly. While she still needs some guidance and encouragement to colour within the lines and trace patterns accurately, she is making good progress and continues to grow with practice and support.

Gross Motor:

Othandowayo moves with confidence and control, demonstrating developing coordination during active play. She enjoys running games, climbing on the jungle gym and participating in obstacle courses where she can crawl, jump and balance. She is able to jump forward with both feet and is beginning to walk along a balancing beam with focus and determination. Her strength and stability are improving when climbing, pulling herself up and sliding down. During group activities, she enjoys movement-based songs and games that involve actions such as stomping, skipping and marching. Her ability to throw and catch a ball, kick with direction and aim at a target reflects her growing hand–eye and foot–eye coordination. Well done!

Othandowayo is developing well in her cognitive and visual perceptual skills. She is beginning to identify and name simple everyday items and familiar objects. She enjoys repeating shapes and colours after being shown and is starting to sort objects according to colour, shape and groupings with guidance. She is also beginning to copy simple patterns and movements during action songs or demonstrations, which supports her visual–motor coordination.

She is able to follow simple instructions and enjoys listening to stories, especially those with expressive sound effects and colourful illustrations, which capture her attention and support her listening skills. She is beginning to identify basic everyday sounds, such as birds chirping, animal noises and environmental sounds, demonstrating an increasing awareness and understanding of the world of sound around her. Othandowayo is beginning to explore early literacy skills. She enjoys listening to stories, looking at pictures and repeating simple sounds, letters and words after me. These experiences are helping her become familiar with language and the sounds that make up words, providing a strong foundation for her future reading and writing development.

Othandowayo is developing her language skills steadily. She is beginning to use two- to three-word phrases to express herself and interact with others. While her speech is sometimes a little unclear, this is age-appropriate and will continue to improve with time and practice. She communicates her needs effectively using a combination of body language, gestures and single words. Othandowayo follows instructions in English and is starting to copy words in Afrikaans and isiZulu, as well as signs in sign language. She enjoys participating in songs, rhymes and storytelling activities, which support the development of her vocabulary and confidence in speaking.

Othandowayo is developing a solid foundation in early numeracy through visual and hands-on experiences. She is able to sort objects by colour and shape, demonstrating an understanding of visual similarities and differences. She is beginning to grasp basic mathematical concepts such as big and small. Othandowayo enjoys building towers with blocks and will count along after the teacher, pointing to each block to show one-to-one correspondence and developing number recognition. She participates enthusiastically in counting activities, happily counting from 0 to 10 and often repeating numbers after me with growing confidence. Numeracy songs with movement and actions, where she uses her fingers, claps or gestures to match numbers, are particular favourites. These visual, tactile and interactive experiences support her early numeracy skills and help her build a deeper understanding of quantity, size and order through practical play.

She especially loves dancing, and her enthusiasm for music and movement brings happiness to everyone around her.
