Use a school specific social media account — Twitter or Instagram seem to work best — to communicate with students & staff and stay involved. Twitter is also great to see what is happening district-wide (#bchsed, #buhachpride, #muhsd, #wearemuhsd) and to glean new ideas from educators all over the world. Send me an email and I can help you get started. Even if you never want to “tweet,” an account could be useful for following educational & professional leaders. EduTwitter (linked below) is a massive directory of educators to follow; you can also add your self.

Julie, I love your suggestion. I've been doing Google Slides Galleries where students can edit directly and post their work, as well as comment. But it makes it a bit difficult to keep it all in one place, as Slides are limited.

I think social media would help make examples, quick tutorials, more accessible. This would also help to feature student work and keep engagement up!

I have google slides that I update daily with positive words, comments, and links. I include pictures and videos. This week I have reminded them about Virtual Dress up week. I have also posted science related links to keep up on the science behind COVID-19 and science in general with videos and links to learning sites. I have posted ideas to keep them busy, and today I added meal recipes and dessert recipes from my cook book and told them to make their family something to eat :) I have have about 5 students consistently comment and create slides, and I have seen others pop in and check them out but no participate. Trying to stay connected and essentially blogging through google slides is fun, but it would be nice if more students participated. Most students don't want to do anything unless they get credit :(

Held a Zoom Meeting yesterday with my Honors Freshman students. I had about 5 show up, (hoped for more) but I held it in the morning - I think I'd get more participation from students if I held an afternoon or early evening time slot. I'll probably try that in a few days. I've been posting daily jokes or just random questions, just to keep in contact with them. I also keep suggesting they find a passion project for the time off.

Hey everyone! I had each of my classes join a GroupMe before we left and it’s been really fun watching them engage! I hadn’t had too many participate until yesterday and then had about 20 off and on throughout the day! I created 6 of them, one for each period so they could stay connected and while I wish more would participate, I think it will get better as we go. I will be doing a couple Zoom check ins as well so hopefully those prove to be successful. Instagram has been pretty helpful too! Classroom has been a busy for me personally, but I’ll keep trying! I created a weekly newsletter that I sent out to the parents I ha e emails for and have heard back from only two, but that’s two more than before! I miss you all and hope you’re staying safe and well!

-Cami

Hey guys! It has been SO fun to visit with kids, when possible, to see their projects. A lot of them have dedicated so much time to ensuring their project is well taken care of.. even with looming cancellations. I have received very limited interaction on my posts on classroom. However, I have had students turning in missing assignments which is great! Hope to see y'all soon! :) Photo of a kiddo during a visit with a cute heifer for fun! :)

Hey everyone! I have been using google classroom as the main way to communicate with my kids. I figured it would be the best way since all students at one point joined the class.I have posted a few things, but like most have said I have not gotten a huge response.I am also using Remind to send out quick info and to say hello. I like this app, because it will send the kids a text message. Twitter has been another tool, but not all my students have an account. I plan to use Zoom. For the clubs that I ran, to keep in touch with the kids I plan to create a Snapchat group so that we can message each other and share videos. I have had a few students work on missing assignments. Hopefully as the days pass, kids will want to check in and want to do more. But like Lea said, since they don't earn credit for the assignments, most kids don't want to do anything. Julie had suggested to invite the parents via classroom, so I will be trying that and hopefully get more of a response from the kids.
Hope everyone is doing well.
