Re-exploring UoI

The following moment was taken two weeks after the students finished the UoI "who we are". At the end of the UoI they had a good understanding of the different connections within the family unit. However, to see if their understanding was still present (long term memory) I re-exposed the students to materials they previously used during this UoI.

Before the students go to free play, I displayed roughly photos that were taken for the line of inquiry "Identify friends and family

members". No instructions were given , I just wanted to see if that would pick the students interests and it dit.

Grouping and counting

At first the students were looking at it and telling each other who is who. They then quickly came up with a game on their own. They decided to put the photos in two different categories, members of the family and the people that they know (friends, teachers etc). At the end they counted who had the most photos. It was really surprising to see them coming up with such clear game that involved different math aspects.
