         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>More instructional options</em></strong>—Co-teachers can diversify how they teach, making instructional time more interesting for teachers and students, material more  accessible to diverse learners, outcomes more successful.</div><div><br><strong><em>Grouping flexibility</em></strong>—Co-teachers can group heterogeneously, homogeneously (a group only with students on IEPs), and have flexibility to work one-on-one with students as necessary as well. <br><br></div><div><strong><em>Lower student-teacher ratios</em></strong>—Co-teachers benefit from more individualized instructional time with their students, leading to more successful outcomes.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Communicate</em></strong>—Co-teachers need to be able to discuss openly their strengths and weaknesses as teachers, teaching styles and philosophies, and teaching values, as well as expectations of each other and the classroom and their roles and responsibilities. In addition, co-teachers should be willing and able to  communicate about personal interests and experiences, and in so doing,  build the trust and respect needed to work together more effectively.</div><div><br><strong><em>Commit</em></strong>—Co-teachers need to have the capacity to commit to the extra planning time required to collaborate; listening to and learning from each other; and the process of co-teaching itself.<br><br><strong><em>Share</em></strong>—Co-teachers must be able to share responsibility for planning, instruction and accommodations for students  with diverse learning needs, and assessment of students with and without IEPs.  Co-teachers must  also be able to share classroom authority equally.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Co-Teaching Examples</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>Station Teaching</em></strong>—Co-teachers divide the lesson content into segments, and each teacher is responsible to teach one of the segments at their own station. Groups rotate to stations, typically one station with each teacher, plus an independent workstation so that the groups are manageably sized. <br><br><strong><em>One Teach/One Assist</em></strong>—One teacher has the primary responsibility for whole-group instruction while the other teacher assists individual students with their work, corrects assignments, and monitors class behavior.<br><br><strong><em>Supplemental Teaching</em></strong>—Co-teachers can “divide and conquer,” with one teacher delivering more materials and information through reteaching, supplementing, or remediation, as necessary, to learners who need additional help while the other teacher works with on-grade-level students to enrich their learning until everyone is caught up.</div>]]></description>
