Collins does not disappoint in this enthralling, entirely satisfying sequel. The pace is a little slower and the emphasis more on character than plot -- Katniss grows considerable as a character -- but readers will find CATCHING FIRE as much of a gripping page-turner as The Hunger Games. More of the story takes place outside the arena than within, but there is plenty of action-packed combat.

Collins offers readers intriguing insights into the nation of Panem: its power structure, rumors of a secret district, and the spreading rebellion. The story is equally rich in provocative political and social commentary, and exploring epic themes of morality, obedience, oppression, rebellion, redemption, sacrifice and, of course, survival. The author also creates a tantalizing and unresolved love triangle between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale that will leave questioning readers desperate for the next installment. This novel can stand alone but readers will have a much a richer experience if they begin with The Hunger Games.
Link: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/catching-fire-the-hunger-games-book-2

I completely agree with every point that this reviewer makes. From what I remember of the original Hunger Games, I do believe that this book was more focused on character development and specifically the development of Katniss throughout the book. At the beginning of the book, she just wants to live a normal life like everybody else, but as the book progresses she, and especially the mockingjay, begin to become the symbols of a rebellion against the capital. She originally isn't enthralled by the idea of being a symbol of the rebellion, but by the end of the book she accepts it. Although, the actual games didn't take up even a half of the book, I still think those several chapters are vital in the development of the story. It improves Katniss's relationship with Finnick and also kind of brings back the love between Katniss in Peeta that was evident in the first book. I am also very excited to read the next book because this book ended at a cliff-hanger and I am excited to see what happens during the rebellion and if they are successful in getting Peeta back.

In my opinion, this is the most important quote in the entire book and summarizes the book pretty great. It encompasses all the things and events that represent and led to the rebellion. The bird represents the mockingjay which is what Katniss is known for and is also the pin that she proudly wears. The berries, the leading cause of the revolution, were the ones that Katniss and Peeta threatened to eat during the 1st Hunger Games. Other than showing all the symbols representing the rebellion, it also shows that Katniss has owned her part as the face of the rebellion. Throughout the book, she was struggling with the ideas of leading a rebellion or living a normal life, but now she realizes that she must serve as the face of the rebellion.

Character Profile and Casting- Haymitch

Haymitch is a previous winner of the Hunger Games, but currently he is just an alcoholic who helps get kids from District 12 ready for the Hunger Games. He tries to do good things no matter what the cost is. The entire book, he knows about the rebellion and what is going to happen, but never tells Peeta or Katniss because he knows that they will do something to change the course of the rebellion. I think a perfect person to play Haymitch would be Bill Murray. Bill Murray genuinely seems like he doesn't care about anything, so he would be good at acting as Haymitch. Bill Murray also has the quick wit that Haymitch possesses and I believe that he could enhance the role with his comic talent. He is also very unsuspecting, like Haymitch, of having the ability to help in a rebellion or even keep a secret.
