HDL is considered 'good cholesterol' because it takes excess cholesterol in the blood stream back to the liver. LDL cholesterol builds up in the arteries, and can develop into atherosclerosis. However, research has shown that garlic can be effective in reducing cholesterol, especially LDL cholesterol. Therefore, garlic consumption can help in the prevention of heart disease.
