Although others might disagree that this could be a hallucination and him maybe slowly dying with a happy thought, I maintain that I think there would be a happy ending. Lowry shows that the community is another dimension across space and time. This could mean that Jonas escaped that dimension and possibly was granted the ability to hear music. Although others might disagree that, they went to another dimension of space and time, the author clearly tells us that they are in another dimension. I maintain that as author shows us what happened. Therefore, I conclude that Jonas and Gabe were taken to another dimension in space and time, possibly even our time, because the author shows that they have been crossing dimensions during their ride.

I maintain that maybe Elsewhere is quite literally not even a place and the Giver and community adults say “elsewhere” meaning any place but here, but the community is so perfect that there would have to be somewhere else you can escape to, especially with a long adventure to pay the price.
