In this source Marc Mauer, the executive director of The Sentencing Project, says that " the older someone gets , the less likely they are to commit serious crimes " with Marc saying this it shows that the youth are the main people causing crime and with that why should they deserve better conditions ?

With the previous research being found out i include that during childhood one learns whats wrong and right with receiving discipline from ones parents / guardian. Some parents spanked their children giveing them the sense that what they did was wrong . If prisons had the best conditions ever wouldn't it provoke the youth to want to still continue to commit crimes . Maybe the homes they are living in right now are the best and the only way to get the right care is to commit crime and stay in a cell for the rest of their lives.

"In recent years, the country has begun moving away from the “tough on crime” policies that have made its prison systems so big and expensive. " With this quote how are prisons all around the U.S. going to have to be given better conditions than already given when they are already too expensive and contain way too many people .

'But if you look at where our tax dollars go, our priorities often don’t line up with our values. A prime example of this is spending on prisons versus schools. We spend $62,300 a year to keep one inmate in prison, and just $9,100 per year per student in our public schools, according to the California Budget Project. "

With all these people going to jail the U.S. has failed to realize what really matters . Why should so much money be sent to prisons when the people that are in there put the punishment on themselves. Instead we should focus more on the future of our country .

"The Sentencing Project found that individuals released from life sentences were less than one third as likely to be rearrested within three years compared to other formerly incarcerated individuals.” Living in a prison makes you want to change your life. If prisons made you feel at home you would continue to do the same crime just to go back.
