Gay teens ad

The writer of the ad intends to show that being gay can be punished sometimes, which adds on to the insecurities of the people who come out to be gay. Therefore, it intends to say that society isn’t supportive enough towards gay people yet. The fact that teens are being left on the streets for being gay may want to represent that gays are being treated as if they aren’t even human. The ad is intended for people who have negative views towards gay people. That is shown with the ad making gay people seem like victims, so it probably wants the reader to feel guilty that they might also be contributing to the problem. Because the ad is assuming that the reader is not already aware of gay people being mistreated, it may be assuming that the reader isn’t gay. The narrative voice remains consistent and it doesn’t refer to the reader directly. The ad doesn’t use syntax grammar properly, but delivers the message it was trying to deliver. It says “40% of homeless teens who come out are thrown out”, which isn’t logical because if they were already homeless they can’t be thrown out. However, the message that gay teens are being kicked out of their homes is delivered. The grammar error may want to motivate the reader to understand the text even more.

Gay teens ad

The text is in all capitals and written very sharply and thickly. The text might be trying to deliver its message with toughness to give the situation it’s describing a cruel vibe. There is a spotlight on a gay homeless person and the text, the rest of the shot is dark, so the ad is giving attention to the gay people lost in the darkness. The text is on the wall behind the homeless gay person. The ad uses mistaken grammar to motivate the reader to concentrate on the text. The text is trying to tell to the reader that gay teens aren’t being rewarded for their courage of coming out, and are instead being punished. The reader could reject the text’s message by thinking that the ad’s statistic may be extremely exaggerated, since 40% percent of gay teens being homeless is such a staggering statistic. The author of the ad is very likely to value acceptance of different people, because of the way the ad treats homosexuality as if there’s obviously nothing wrong with it.

GAP Article: Purpose

The text informs the audience about the scandal that GAP has had with products that favor the male gender over the female gender. It is unclear which side the article supports, but it is only showing the negative critiques towards GAP, so it probably supports the people complaining about the issue.

GAP Article: Audience

The target audience of the article would probably be someone interested in fashion to some extent, in order to be concerned about what companies like GAP are up to. It could also be someone who doesn’t care about fashion, but is just really interested in how gender inequality is affecting society, or it could even be someone who is interested in about both. An assumption made on the reader is that the reader thinks that both genders should have equal treatments, because the critiques in the text are incorporating that thought in their logic.

The reader may feel enlightened on how big companies have been manipulating gender stereotypes in order make more money. This could mean that the article is trying to make its readers more vigilant towards cases where a company could be trying to control people’s gender views. Although some people could strongly agree with what the article is demonstrating, other viewers may think that people who critique clothing companies for gender stereotypes are too sensible.
