4. The map is a portrayal of the known world before 1492 and after humans advanced and sailed across the ocean we gained knowledge of North America

In the article, an example regarding Jeff Bezos stated that even though the data indicated that there weren't problems, the anecdotes from individuals talking with customer service said there were. According to the article, this demonstrated that "relying solely on maps can lead you to the wrong conclusion."

2. I claim that this is a generalization that isn't true. Every day, tens of thousands of flights in this country rely on equipment inside of aircraft to get to their destination. 3. An example above is a Garmin G500, which is a navigation aid that can be located inside of an aircraft that allow pilots to fly without reference to visual aids. This means that even if the windows of the cabin were completely obscured, a properly certified pilot could easily navigate to their destination. This attitude is reflected in training as pilots are encouraged to rely on their instruments as opposed to what they feel or any physical sensations.

4. Pilots solely rely on this model, and it always gets them to their destination. Therefore, the proposition that relying solely on maps leads one to the wrong conclusion (or in this case, destination) is wrong.

Maps influence not just how we travel but how we think of others

Political/Voting Maps

With how much control humanity has today over our natural world, since about 1800 it feels much more that the maps we create have more influence on the territory than the territory influencing the map. For example, with my map of the 2022 midterms, you see the blue and red and make assumptions about those states. You assume that those election results show off the greater poltical views people in those states would have. And especially with maps like these that don't list population or the number of votes, an election made up of millions of people can suddenly become to black and white in its results. And with that black white, we then think in simple terms about the people living there. We don't think about winning or losing a race by 10,000 votes or 100,000 votes, but simply that the race was lost or won at all. We also then can assume that an area is safe, or has these specific values, when the sitution can be more complex. Take Colorado. You can see democratic results in presidential elections, and then people outside of Colorado can ignore that we've had/have staunch conservatives, or the role of Colorado Spirngs for many years in the conservative sphere.
